I'm thinking roasted yellow pepper soup. More homemade tortilla chips with guacamole, since they were so good the other day. Salmon.
Today's my day off, so I spent my morning going around to my favorite specialty food stores. Had a ball and bought so many interesting things. So I have a:
Caper Berry Report
Roland is distributing them now, and I found a good-sized jar for $3.99. Sixteen ounces, I think. That will keep me in caper berries for awhile. This was at a locally owned specialty food market (huge), so that won't help you, but I have learned that a lot of the grocery stores are carrying them, so check your local supermarket if you want to try them. Needless to say, they would be found next to the capers. Even if your market doesn't stock them, ask them to, as everyone orders from Roland.
I like to put mine on salads, and they are especially good with 1000 Island dressing.
My local King's, which is pricey local chain here, has a small jar for $5.19. Too high. I got twice that amount for over a dollar less at another store.
TJs sold them for something like $2.99 for six ounces. TJs sold the Alessi brand.
You can buy them at Amazon, but not real economical. Have to buy a six-pack to get a fairly reasonable price, but it's been awhile since I checked, so if that's an option for you, check again. That was the Alessi brand.

(106,886 posts)I use Louisiana Fish Fry brand spice mix, it's good. Pork wrapped tight with the spices this morning now into a low and slow oven. Broccoli topped with garlic butter. Watermelon cubes with mint.

(50,130 posts)I was at Big Lots. I don't know if that chain is everywhere, or localized.
Anyway, they always have a section of "foreign" foods. I found jars of caper berries for under two bucks each. They were from Spain, IIRC. I had four of them but I gave them away in food gifts and didn't taste them. Guess I'll go back and see if there are any more.
And I drove past a Bit Lots on the way home!! Didn't even think to check. Well, that is the value of having a thread like this--we can learn things from each other. I'm still thanking whoever it was in C & B who told about the parchment paper at the dollar store tip. Until then, I'd been paying four bucks a roll for it at the grocery stores.

I noticed during the holidays that dollar store had 8 oz bottles of very nice organic dark molasses, too. Got a couple of those for baking. Gone now, I fear.
Never know! Dollar store also has freakeh and sea salts. Crazy.
