Looks like it's going to be pizza here tonight!
What's for dinner where you are?

(11,916 posts)with a side of green beans. My son and I had a stomach virus over the weekend and are still not feeling that hungry. I figured we could have more noodles than gravy and meatballs, while hubby and daughter could have the regular servings.
Last night they had scalloped ham and potatoes while my son and I had soft boiled eggs and toast. The ham/potatoes smelled so good, but I was afraid to chance it.

(60,015 posts)I made a really good vegan mocha chip ice cream for dessert - almond milk, agave syrup, cinnamon, cocoa power, Via coffee powder, vegan chocolate chips. Tastes like a really good mocha chip sorbet!

(31,170 posts)What is in the vegan chocolate chips?

(6,581 posts)NOT much happened after dinner at my house last night. The spirit was willing, but the body was weak.
So, whatever I can throw together when I get home.

(47,675 posts)Morning Star FINALLY brought back the veggie dogs!!! They're easily the best out there (with SmartDogs running a close second).

(10,170 posts)I apologize, but I forget about whether you are vegetarian or vegan?

(10,170 posts)in case you did not do eggs and dairy.
Here is my favorite veggie dog which I get from a local place called Man Bites Dog.
The Reuben Dog: They grill the sauerkraut, then add steamed swiss cheese on top and yummy Russian dressing. This is all snuggled into the best bun made of kolache dough I have ever eaten. Delish!!!

(47,675 posts)Just kidding, well, unless it is close by. That sounds REALLY good. I'll have to try that.
And there's no way you can offend me about food. When I worked on contract assignments in Texas, restaurants there thought cows were a vegetable. While there is a convincing argument to support that assertion, that's not the way I view it.

(10,170 posts)and if you come to visit, we will get some Austin DUers together and meet you there. We are mostly South Austinites now and we just recently had a DU meet up a couple of doors down from there.
Austin is pretty good these days about having vegetarian options in almost all our restaurants - even steak houses, but I grew up in TX and know what you mean about cows and food in most of the state.

(47,675 posts)I'll just have to make it on my own I'm afraid. Thanks for the invite!

(31,170 posts)Now I just make my own burgers, so I haven't shopped the brand in a long time! Nice to know there are some good hotdogs out there.

(31,170 posts)I just ate a little bit of pizza earlier, and now I am hungry again after reading all these great dinners.

(135,060 posts)but one I love. Had a 4 oz filet, 1/2 sweet potato and cucumber salad. Saw your response to me about the pot stickers. Going to try it next week when the kids are here for dinner. Was glad to see you also cooked the meat first because when I looked at a few recipes on the net I was unsure.

(31,170 posts)I'm sitting here really hungry, we ate really early tonight, and I just realized that I have a sweet potato out there, so I know what I am going to have for a snack now!

(20,234 posts)and broccoli roasted with some of last night's chicken legs drippings. I know my husband thinks I'm crazy, covering the dirty roasting pan and putting it "empty" back in the fridge, but a little of that stirred into the veggies while they bake is just amazing to me. And we had a side of turkey broth with mushrooms and a dash of curry/hot sauce in it.

(31,170 posts)Except for dessert.
But hey, they put bacon in a lot of sweets these days, so why not drippings!

(3,650 posts)The original dish she made was a crockpot concoction with great northern beans, onions, green chili, and chicken breast. After having it, on the second day, as a filling for burritos, I then added some hot sausages and seasonings, and made a sort of baked beans or cassoulet. Tonight I took the remaining leftovers, and put a pastry crust over the top, baking it into sort of a pot pie/empenada type dish. I had to improvise on the pastry as I found that a rat had gotten into our shortening. I made the pastry with olive oil, and it came out pretty good. Not as flaky as one made with shortening; but not as much of a belly ache either. She finished hers, but I still have a bit left over for a lunch. Moreover, there is still a frozen bucket of the original chili recipe. That's a lot of meals out of one original dish.

(31,170 posts)I'm intrigued with the notion of the white beans with the chicken and green chili too. Bill is a big fan of northern's, and I do like them in this kielbasa and rice dish he makes, but I don't use them in much else. I'll have to give this a try!

(26,582 posts)I went to my dad's tonight to watch a movie with him and his wife. I gave him the DVD of Lonesome Dove for Christmas one of his favorite movies) and he's been holding off watching it until I could come over. We watched parts 1 & 2 tonight and I'm going over Thursday after work to watch the other two parts.
My dad ordered pizza for us tonight, and I think my step-mom's cooking Thursday night.

Lucinda
(31,170 posts)I've never tried it simply like that, with pasta, before. We do it with potatoes or in our Chinese dishes a lot. Will have to give this a try soon!

(31,170 posts)I use garlic and rosemary most often, thyme would be a really nice change.

(12,253 posts)Yum! Thyme is good or sometimes Herbs de Provence. That gets a little of everything in there!
