(2,016 posts)I just put a chuck roast in the oven for a few hours. With the usual suspects of root veggies (carrots, potatoes, turnips, halved onions).
The waiting is the hardest part - Tom Petty was correct!

(106,886 posts)(aside) Nice to see turnips on your menu. They seem to have gone by the culinary wayside.

I do enjoy mashing turnips with spuds. Yum!

(35,675 posts)Made 'em up this morning. They have lots of herbs (oregano, parsley) and are in tomato sauce. I served them with two types of sauces--barbecue and A-1 Smoky Black Pepper.
Later in the day is a tossed salad.
If I have the energy, zucchini pizza crust.
We'll miss you, pinto!

Can you tell I'm half Italian?
PS, I wish I knew how to make Italian sausage myself. I like it with fennel. Do not need to buy the store cased sausage since I skin and break it up anyway.
Anyone have a good recipe? I'd love to find one with little fat. Can mince it up in the food processor.

(2,674 posts)I made pan-Fried chicken, potato salad, pinto beans, slow cooked with hamhock, onions and garlic, plate of sliced East Texas tomatoes, big and ripe and cheese cake pie with fresh strawberries for dessert. Reminds me of so many Sunday meals when I was a kid. Also reminds me of that Lyle Lovett song about the Sunday preaching that went on and on and all he could think about was the Fried chicken dinner they would soon eat.

(106,886 posts)Fried chicken, green beans w/mushrooms, mashed potatoes, biscuits. Some sort of gravy on the side. Fresh fruit and whipped cream. Sometimes a peach pie if my grandmother and her sidekick got to it...

(14,733 posts)Spent most of the day working on clearing dead canes out of the raspberry patch again today, along with getting my and the parents' lawns mowed. We had a clear, dry day, and we're forecast to have a completely wet week, so today was the day to try and get as much done as possible. A few of the first tomatoes are almost ripe, and I'm still keeping an eye on the garlic, to see when it's time to harvest that. Spent the day shirtless, and my back is mildly warm, so I guess I picked up some sunburn, although not a horribly painful one.
