What's for Dinner, Sat., Oct. 3, 2015

Meatloaf that is layered with mashed potatoes. The RG made it, so you know it's gotta' be good! Plus it has tomato sauce on top.

It's cold here, so that sounds like a good dinner to me.

I will make a green salad to go with.

I've got some buffalo chicken salad in there, i think, and some sourdough bread, so probably a sandwich.

Yesterday was cold, today was cold, but tomorrow on for the rest of the week is supposed to be mid 70s.

I feel like steak but not a whole lot of food. A good salad with a homemade dressing. Yum! Trying a dressing made with an orange balsamic vinaigrette. It tastes wonderful!

and scalloped turnips done in the oven. I'm thinking about shaving broccoli stems (using a mandoline, same for the turnips) into the whole mix, too. The stems are the best part of the broccoli, IMO.

A green salad to boot.

I tried putting everything together in a casserole dish, and then baking. DO NOT!

Next time, I will start on the stove, with a roux, then add the 1/2-1/2. Then pour it all on the veggies, and THEN bake.

I used a bad recipe, which stated layering the veggies with flour and butter, and pour in the milk/cream. Bad idea. (after an hour in the oven, it never "came together&quot . All I got was pockets of flour, with a butter/cream mess. However, I did like the addition of layered onions with the turnips. And the broccoli was a good last minute idea, too.

Live and learn for me - make the sauce first, then add it to the veggies. Oy!

I've always preferred bacon-wrapped water chestnuts.
