What's for Dinner, Sun., Oct. 25, 2015

My friends want me to go to see the new Steve Jobs movie and then go out to dinner, but I think I'll stay home and make Chinese. It's such a beautiful day that I want to spend every minute I can outdoors.

My salsa turned out wonderful! It's a good thing I made plenty of it. I made it with pineapple, red pepper, tomato, coriander, and 2 zested limes.

It certainly did take some time, but was well worth it.

I think I'll do chicken curry with leftover chicken, rotisserie type from grocery. It's applewood smoked and pretty good.

Forgot to get an apple from grocery for curry sauce recipe, so may try to find one on one of the apple trees here (IF there's one that's not TOO insect damaged!)

Polish stuffed cabbage rolls in tomato sauce.

I have yet to meet anyone who actually pronounces the "L" in golumpki. It's always been "go-wumpki".

And I'm not even Polish...(my aunt is, though).

It is really good - sometimes you just crave your own cooking done exactly the way you like it.

Spent more money than I wanted to yesterday and today, so I'm trying to live out of pantry for a while to pull my budget back in line. There's going to be a lot of rice and ramen in my near future, heh.

It's a nice day out here, too, albeit a bit on the cool side. I'll be headed outside again soon, to continue cutting up the maple and maybe set up a fire for tonight. If it continues this clear, it'll be a good night to be out star gazing. Just realized today that it's only a week til Halloween, so I'm glad we got the wood pile out in the side of the front yard cleared away, so no kids can play on it and maybe get hurt. But I still need to clean the brick pathway out front - some of the bricks have slimed over, since they get wet, but never get any sunlight. Don't want anyone slipping out there either.

'Cuz I didn't have one of the ingredients for the Chinese that I'd planned.

Instead, I made cannellini-tomato-kale soup. I used kale from my garden, and the tomatoes were fresh from the garden, too. Used up the chicken broth I'd made earlier in the week, and thanks to the suggestions from my fellow C&B colleagues, it tasted very good. I put in "Better than Bouillion."

I also made fruit salad with green grapes, chopped pear, kiwi fruit, and cantalope (cantalopes were from the garden). I also had some honeydew, but they had no taste, so I threw them out. Won't grow those again next year.

Anyway, there will be enough left for a meal or two in the coming week, and since I took on yet another job (!), it will save me some much needed time.
