I'm going to a dinner party this evening, and I don't know what she's serving.
I volunteered to bring a salad, which I'd better get on to making here shortly, since it starts at 7 p.m.

(24,146 posts)i have, not surprisingly, come down with some manner of crud and am not terribly hungry. i'm having a little bit of leftover pho and a piece of toast right now and it's probably enough for the night.

(39,961 posts)but substantial. I had some great French bread I picked up yesterday along with some deli thick sliced rare roast beef, a block of dill Havarti, and for good measure heated up some beef consommé.
French dip from hell, delicious, satisfying and loads of flavor! I wish I had five different stomachs, but alas, mine was almost too small for a modestly sized one. Still, though, lord have mercy it was delicious!

from the garden (alas, probably nearing the end of the season). Tomato/cucumber salad. Coconut pie.
Aldi's had multicolored peppers on sale, as well as packages of multicolored tomatoes. I mixed them with a pkg. of San Marzano tomatoes that I got at Publix last week and it was a beautiful, colorful salad.
Edit to add: This was actually Sunday lunch and the coconut pie was in honor of the mothers. It was my mom's recipe and everyone in the family loves it.
