What's for Dinner, Fri., May 11, 2018

I think I'll go to the salad and hot food bar at the Whole Foods. I know this is a lame dinner effort, but I have been through appliance installation for two days now and my house and kitchen are a mess.

But yay, new washer, dryer, and dishwasher! I bought all-American made appliances.

Today I made homemade sage sausage and had a patty. It turned out well. Flavorful. Very lean.
And I thought I'd make some cheese fritters, but as I mixed my ingredients together, I decided I'd make a biscuit crust and make a savory pie. It is in the oven now.

Don't you just love new appliances? Happy for you

I'm having such fun learning all the new features. One load of wash and one load dried and another coming up. Filling up that dishwasher, too!

Sage sausage and cheese fritters sound so good. The savory pie, too. Yummm, I may try something like that over the weekend.

Savory Cheese Pie

Lightly oil an 8" pie plate or 8" round cake pan.

1 cup biscuit mix, scant 1/3 cup of water. Mix and pat into the bottom of the pan.
Filling:
2 large eggs
1 cup small curd cottage cheese
1 cup shredded Mozzarella
1/4 cup shredded Swiss
4 green onions, chopped
a little basil, a little parsley, 1/2 tsp garlic, s & P to taste, dash of hot sauce.
Mix the filling ingredients together and pour over the crust.
Topping:
1/4 to 1/2 cup chopped onions, grilled in about 1 tsp olive oil. (or use French-fried onions)
Bake for about 35 minutes, till firm and knife comes out clean.

Sounds like you are having fun today. You deserve take out

so I scrounged around the kitchen to find something I could call "dinner".

I found flour tortillas in the bottom drawer of the refrig
I found a 2oz container of ground chicken breast in the freezer - don't remember when I put it in there, could be years
No lettuce but I found a partial bag of snap peas (for a nice crunch plus its a veggie)
Also found a small plastic tub from Taco Time with hot sauce in it
PRESTO: A burrito.

While I was digging through the freezer I found a bag of sliced strawberries left over from when I made jam last year
No whipping cream, but half/half was just fine. So I even had "dessert".

It all turned out pretty good, considering. I guess the key is this: everything tastes better with hot sauce and you just can't hurt strawberries.
