What's for Dinner, Tues., May 29, 2018

I washed a big bag of garden salad greens today and in drying them, covered two clean towels spread out on my dining room table! All kinds of greens, including baby arugula, regular arugula, ruffly green leaf, romaine, red leaf, mustard spinach, oak leaf. Mesclun, and even beet and radish greens.

Because I am exhausted by gardening, I then went to the store and bought tuna salad, egg salad, and mozzarella slices to have with the salad. I also have a pint of blueberries and toasted walnuts, as well as sunflower seeds and dried cranberries. I'll make up my own salad bar and have as many salads as I want tonight!

Nothing else planned, except for dessert, which might be a little vanilla Haagen Daz and a cookie.

Having a party soon, thinking of an all-day buffet, so 'salad bar' sounds like a good feature.

Mini crab cakes will be featured.

deli salads in a market 800 miles away. The ones that occasionally entice me to do this even at $10/lb.

Lots of time in the garden here today between rain showers. I'm reclaiming an abandoned garden, so digging recalcitrant weeds up by the roots and moving surviving perennials while the rain helps.

So it's green salad and a smokey chili simmering right now.

96 and humid Fortunately yesterday I made an Asian-style chicken salad with leftover brown rice, red cabbage, carrots, cucumber, cilantro and mint with a tangy sesame dressing. I put a little sriracha and chopped cashews on mine. Very nice not to have to futz with cooking tonight.
