Rinse the shucked ears in the sink with cool water.
Throw the ears in the trash and cook something that actually tastes good.

(6,568 posts)Every Sunday in the summer my grandfather would pick up a bunch of it from the supermarket (he did the same test you did). My mom and grandmother would sit out in the cabana shucking it while my dad grilled up dinner. Then it would be lightly boiled (well, boil the water, add the corn, cover, return to boil then shut off heat and let sit for a couple mins).
Everyone would roll the cooked corn across a stick of butter and lightly salt it. The smell and flavor of fresh sweet corn is gross to me. Everyone in my family loves it. I despise it. Always have.
Only way I use corn is masa flour when I make tortillas from scratch (also, I sometimes add a little masa flour to my chili as well).

What wonderful fun to go down to Canton, Texas First Monday Ttrade Days and half the fun is tasting all the food sold there. One of my favorites in the ears of corn roasted. still in shucks, in a big, loud roaring roaster, As the corn is cooked, a crew stands by to shuck the hot corn and rub off the silk. You can douse the roasted corn with butter, chili powder or mayo. Always a line of people waiting to buy an ear of freshly roasted corn.
