Instant Pot Owners! Advice needed.

I've been a long proponent of the CrockPot, and I own a basic rice cooker. The 3qt Instant Pot is on sale for $49 (instead of the usual $99).

Is it worth replacing my two, much loved kitchen gadgets? Or is this more of a "in addition to" sort of thing?

I still use my crockpot for many things. Don't get me wrong, I love my instant pot and used both for our Thanksgiving dinner. I wouldn't throw out the crockpot.

There is no need to throw out the crock pot. You might want to cook more than one thing. The rice cookers I have had are easier to clean (Teflon lining in the pot), and are optimized for rice. Keep them all.

(of course I needed the yogurt mode and not all of them have that)... To me, though, better to go a bit bigger than smaller capacity as you don't have to fill it up but you can if you need to.

You can readily cook rice in it, so that is one appliance down and it is absolutely able to slow cook, plus pressure cooking (which is a very versatile feature).

So, yeah, I got rid of my crock pot and I could have gotten rid of the rice cooker, but since I have a fancy one that has a GABA setting (slow soak cycle prior to cooking increases specific nutrient content for brown rice), I have chosen to hold onto it for now.

Good luck on your decision. As others have said, if storage space is not an issue and you cook a lot for groups of people, then keep them all.

But rarely use it anymore. I may get rid of it. I use my InstantPot all the time. Today I used it to keep mashed potatoes warm. One of its best features is the ability to keep food warm at a safe serving temperature without cooking it more.

You wouldn't be wasting your money. And keep your Crockpot. You may need to make two things for the same meal and need both of them.

I donated two crockpots (kept the mini one), a rice cooker, a stovetop pressure cooker, and a yogurt maker to the hospital resale shop.

Never regretted it. I did hang on to the big electric roaster and the electric frying pan as well as the mini-crockpot.

But now I actually have space to store things in my cabinets with only one layer I might use some of those items now and then.

bemusedly,
Bright

AOC has been tweeting movies of herself making a bunch of different instant pot recipes. You can read her tweets even if you don’t use twitter.
