Tonight is "fun" food. The RG is getting pizza from WF and also sushi and some other Japanese food from a nearby sushi bar.
Also we are having baby arugula salad with parmesan and toasted pine nuts.
We had an enjoyable time listening to our friends tell us about their trip to Israel last night. Our guests brought many bottles of wine, sparkling wine, and dessert: little Bundt cakes made with brandy. There was bruschetta and two kinds of pasta. One pasta was vegetarian lasagna and the other was rigatoni that was standing upright. It was served in a glass dish and each rigatoni was stuffed with ground pork and sausage in cream sauce. Then, of course, we had the lamb chops.
Here's a pic of my place setting along with the paperwhites I grew from bulbs. I sorta' used that as a centerpiece:
I have another pic but for some reason Tinypic turned it sideways and I don't know how to get it right side up.

(12,253 posts)I miss parties with that kind of thought and skill in dishes that are non-traditional.
We are looking for a little warm-up in the weather, so decided to go out for sushi on Valentine's Day. Tonight I'm making the duck that I had planned for Valentine's. I plan to harvest a bunch of duck fat to oven fry potatoes in later, so hubby is making his favorite mashed potatoes. I'm roasting the duck with herbs de Provence and will finish with a red wine sauce. Simple steamed broccoli on the side. Leftovers for days!

(32,975 posts)I got a coupon, so I'm trying Quorn roast. It is a mushroom based meat substitute, so I made a brown mushroom gravy from a mix for topping. Not a bad choice, but it is not going to make you forget a pork or beef roast.
And I forgot the papkira when I made the mac & cheese.🤦. I did use sharp & mild cheddar, mustard powder,&white pepper in a butter-flour-milk roux to melt the cheeses.

But I just put the crust on the potpie and it's cooking on high (last step) and it should be ready in another 20 minutes.

(2,302 posts)My first time cooking tuna and I loved it. Husband did NOT... the texture turned him off.
This guy is making me crazy! every other week he re-decides what he will NOT eat -- red meat or whatever.
I try to stick to a low-carb regimen, and he says he wants to also, but then asks for bread or a potato. Many nights I just prepare two completely different meals for us. I don't mind but I'm the one who has to come up with something he'll still say he's eating this week.
