(46,436 posts)Alaska is actually baking this year. 80 degrees right now, and its been record-breaking hot all of June with no break in sight. Climate change is real. (I know, not baking related.)
Backing out of DU now. Havent been here since June 2016.

(46,436 posts)one near Fairbanks with mandatory evacuations and one down on the Kenai that has been burning since early June (lightning). There are 150 active wildfires in the state right now. Its been so smoky, some days it looks like fog. We also just now had a brush fire here in town at the Far North Bicentennial Park that forced evacuations in that area, but they have it pretty well under control now. All the fireworks displays in Southcentral have been cancelled. (Of course, fireworks here in July are underwhelming. Save it for winter when you can see them.). The forecast for the coming week is for five straight 80+ days which is absolutely unprecedented. We used to be lucky if we got 5 or 10 70+ days in a whole summer. I dont like this, but my gardens do, so I guess I cant complain.
Average high temperature inJune is supposed to be 63 degrees.
Only fools deny climate change.

I was intrigued and found this video about ulu and the history of the tool:

(46,436 posts)but SHRED brought this thread to my attention. I use my ulu all the time for chopping nuts, garlic, ginger, and herbs. Its a great tool. Native Alaskans were/are very resourceful, and this was a very useful invention.

Yeah, I didn't know that existed either. So much for an erection lasting 4 hours . . .
