For an appetizer, we're having some of the RG's pate with ciabatta bread, which I am about to go buy.
The entree is lamb chops and not sure about the vegetable.
Dessert: My grilled nectarines with vanilla ice cream to top it.

I'm alone in NYC (if that's possible) while the Landlady(!) is on Ocracoke Island tending to her rental house which got hit by Dorian. I'm working late so I'll just order in.
I wanted to tell you about my chicken vindaloo last night. Surprisingly, it turned out very well. The sauce was a little tricky to get right but then it was easy. Lightly sauté cubes of boneless chicken along with onion slices and cubes of potatoes. Add some cumin, minced garlic and red pepper flakes. When the meat is cooked, pour the sauce in the same pan. Meanwhile, make some Jasmine rice or rice pilaf and be sure to add some peas and cardamon. I steamed a little cabbage and whipped up some dahl. Lastly, I lightly fried some pita bread; I wasn't about to try making aloo paratha.
It was tasty and I didn't make it too spicy, (hat tip to elleng!) Best part is that there was quite a bit leftover for tomorrow night.

(35,619 posts)I have a pork vindaloo recipe that I have to dig up, now that you've inspired me.
I was thinking to do the rice one day and the vindaloo the next, just to cut down on the work. The fried pita bread would be another good shortcut.
Sorry to hear about the landlady's Dorian damage.

(21,995 posts)Here's how I got introduced to Indian cuisine. I was in college and living in Spanish Harlem on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. One night, a French Horn player friend took me to an Indian restaurant on 125th Street and Amsterdam Avenue; this was in 1978.
I had no idea what to order so my friend ordered for the table. Unbelievably, one of the entrees was beef vindaloo! Totally inappropriate for the cuisine but it hooked me on the flavors. We had aloo paratha, Mulligatawny soup, raita, rice pilaf and various condiments. It was a spectacular experience!
By the way, that hole-in-the-wall is long gone and I've never seen beef on an Indian menu since, of course.

(38,529 posts)Simply seared in a mix of olive oil and butter and dusted w/ a bit of paprika. (Lemon wedge on the side.) Served w/ toasted almond rice pilaf and a mix of sautéed carrots, onions, garlic and wilted spinach w/ a touch of lemon zest.
Al had a meeting tonight at the Legion. I just made us each a couple of hotdogs.

(1,704 posts)the NYT recipe, it's a family favorite. We cook carrots and onions and sometimes potatoes or cauliflower with the chicken, and have it over couscous.
Here's a link, though you might have to be subscribed to their recipe thing (too tired to come up with the right word): https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1017161-oven-roasted-chicken-shawarma
Dessert for me is a sorta Sidecar, with German brandy and orange juice instead of lemon
