I'm picking up dinner at a Japanese buffet. We've been there many times, so I know what I want. This place has a variety of salads, which is why I like it so much. One of my favorites is thinly sliced eggplant, which is in some type of sweet cider sauce. They also have baby bok choy, asparagus salads and mixed green salad, not to mention all kinds of noodle salads using soba and black noodles. The noodle salads have all kinds of toppings, like toasted sesame seeds, sliced cucumber, grated carrot, chopped coriander, scallion, peanuts.
They have hot entrees like beef teriyaki and bbq pork ribs, but I prefer to choose from the maki/sushi bar. I love love love dynamite roll, and haven't had it in a long time, so mostly I'll stick to that, although for sure an avocado roll or two and possibly a few California rolls. Ginger slices on top! And a teensy bit of wasabi.
Their desserts that are not sweet, which I also like. They are like tiny little tea cakes, cut in squares of about 1-2 inches. They are always decorated beautifully and they have colors you wouldn't normally find in a dessert, like pale green (green tea type dessert).
This will be a great accompaniment to watching Trump's woes tonight on Rachel.

I'm making mushroom stew. Visited a mushroom place where you can purchase the mushrooms that they grow. Typically they sell to restaurants, but on the weekends they sell to common folk. Interesting place. Anyway, I told them that I wanted to make mushroom stew and they suggested three different mushrooms, one being shiitake. My apologies, but I don't remember the name of the other two.
The stew is fantastic! I've taste tested!

(1,706 posts)a cut that's not super tender, but is flavorful. We had bleu cheese butter on it, so good. Baked potatoes and green beans with a red wine vinegar and mustard vinaigrette.
We're foregoing the news and starting to watch Line of Separation, about a village divided between East and West Germany after WWII. I've been fascinated by East Germany since my college days.
