(16,334 posts)after we watched the latest top chef, I have been announcing my meals in the same style...
tonight we have oven roasted vegetables over garlic and white bean quinoa with a side of balsamic glazed mushrooms

(111,339 posts)but since the lockdown, I've started using up staples and things like carrots that are good keepers instead of more fragile fare like salad greens. I've been making friends with old favorites again.
It helps that I put in an enormous order to Penzey's just before the lockdown.
Anyone who wants to live economically or even make as few shopping trips as possible really needs to learn how to cook and anyone who can read and follow directions can learn.
I've found I really do prefer my own cooking to anything I get out.

(16,334 posts)You're right. It's rare to find restaurant food that is better than what you can make on your own. The amount of salt used by others is a big factor in why we limit restaurant foods. I still want BBQ every once in a while and that takes some planning at home. Otherwise, eating out was usually social for me. Meeting friends for lunch or dinner.
I don't really miss it much. I miss the conversations but I have a phone.
