Question, but not sure if it's the right group. What do you do

when the chain comes off a chainsaw? It's just a small electric one. I thought the chain was kind of loose, but used it anyway until the chain just slipped off in the middle of a cut. Did I ruin the saw?

the chain back on and tighten it... should never use a chain saw with a loose chain (and make sure it has oil)... very dangerous...

I use a Stihl though, and don't know much about electric

A certain amount of slack is needed. Check the manual or YouTube. Then you continually check that slack and adjust as the slack increases with use.

have them sharpen it and put it back on. I'm not that good with power tools.

That typically comes with the saw, ask them for one that fits the nut(s) that are part of the tensioner. The long end will be a flat screwdriver for adjusting tension via the tension screw(mine has one). Also, as another mentioned, get chainsaw oil and fill up the reservoir. The oil flow control may also be a screw head, again that the driver end can fit in. Lastly, make sure you have a guard on the nose of the bar. If that Chain comes of at full steam, the nose guard offers protection.

The tool should be under $5.
