Concerns about my daughter's gym class - sanity check

My sophomore daughter just had her first day of school. She was a little upset about something her new Phys-Ed teacher told the class. Apparently the teacher said they will NEVER have class inside and will ALWAYS have it outside, rain or shine, no matter what.

This is a very new and modern school with a beautiful inside gym and AC. I don't understand the point of this rule of hers. We live in southern California. It was 102 degrees outside here today. Their outdoor Phys Ed areas have no shade. None. Her gym class is at 2:00pm, the hottest part of the day. Also, we are expecting a ferocious El Nino here this winter. Can this teacher seriously think the kids should be outside in the pouring rain and hail?

I've never been over protective or the kind of parent to get upset about things easily and have never called the school or principal to complain about anything but I'm seriously thinking of raising a big stink if this teacher really goes through with this. But first I thought I'd ask you all for a sanity check.....do you think it's ok for kids to be exercising in the sun in 102 degree weather? Would you think it's ok for your kid to be outside exercising when a thunderstorm is pouring down rain and hail?

Before you raise a stink, call the school and ask an administrator about the policy. It is unreasonable to expect PE to be outside no matter what. Maybe the teacher is wrong, maybe your daughter misheard. Hard to say. Call the school and ask - nicely. If you don't like the answer, then raise a stink.

But I just wanted to get a feel from some other parents to make sure I'm not being overly protective or concerned.

And I'll ask nicely. Like I said, I'm not the type to raise a stink.

I'd check with the school first as that seems a strange policy to have, how can you decide on the first day that you will always be outside? Especially without a reason and as it seems they have great indoor facilities.
As an adult choosing to do sports I would never say i would always be outside, I can't think what that can be teaching the students. Especially as these aren't little kids, surely the aim is to encourage them to enjoy sports, not to dread it?
