My regular vet wants a minimum of $1K for 2nd and 3rd vaccinations + rabies for both. No discounts for rescues. I think i'm going to check around. These two are my babies!

My friend took her kitty to a new vet last week and was charged $15 for medicine that her old vet charged her $85 for. Something is not right. There are a lot of well-to-do in this area, maybe they just don't want to deal with us peons.

3. They are the most convenient (for emergencies)

but I am really fed up with being overcharged. I want my toddlers taken care of, but paying the most money isn't a guarantee of good care. These guys were rescued from a hoarding situation, so I'm going to check with the rescuers to see if there are discount rates for rescued cats. They were rescued in the nick of time. They are not afraid of people and have good appetites.

I understand about convenience though. And agree, when it comes to vets, price is not an indication of quality of care.

Check around. Many spay/neuter clinic will even offer their "regular customers" the opportunity to get vaccinations. And some rescue groups actually give most of their own vaccinations. (Rabies must be given by a licensed veterinarian in my state).

6. Do ask around in your city about low cost vaccines.

In Atlanta they are fairly frequent and widespread. You are good to take care of those babies. They are precious!

Looks like they have really tuckered themselves out.

And....OMG, you are being robbed if you go to that vet for routine care. I have never heard anything that outrageous. Our Humane Society has free vaccination clinics on occasion, and my vet has a monthly vaccination clinic for a low price---but no exam at those times. Ask the rescue that you got them from what you should expect to pay and if there is low cost routine care available in your area. They should know.

And enjoy those cutie-pies.

I will continue to look for a better deal. In the meantime, I shall enjoy my silly baby kittehs and indulge them until my training is complete. Even though they are novices at people-training they always manage to keep my attention. I love those darling purrs!

goes something like: "Dedicated to providing the highest standard of living for ourselves and our colleagues." This is the breakdown of the estimate I got over the phone yesterday: Per kitten!

Visit 1 151 x 2 = 302
Visit 2 151 x 2 = 302
Visit 3 146 x 2 = 292

TOTAL $ 896

This is the minimum and assumes the kittens will need no further treatment or medication. Considering I've paid $50/ea. for very sick kittehs to redeem them from shelters, paying $500 to get a second and third dose of distemper, etc. vaccine and a rabies shot really is robbery.

That sounds like a lot of money for shots, etc.!

I'd be looking around for another (cheaper) vet too!

You are just as crazy about kittehs as I am! We think our big boy, Jake, is about 7 or 8 now. We've had him five years and he has a good attitude with a mellow edge. He was aloof at first but has been very kind to the kittens. He even tried engaging them in play a little, but he is enormous next to them (20# vs. 14 oz.) and they are a bit intimidated. I have several ways to go on the vet dilemma, but I asked for the estimate because I wanted to see how I would be treated as we have spent thousands of dollars with this vet in the past five years. It was disappointing, but this is an affluent area and they have been catering more and more to the high end clients by pricing the rates above (in my opinion) reason. Cuts down on waiting times and keeps the riff-raff out of the waiting room.

I am in love with my babies. They are so tiny and dependent. They have been having a few digestive problems (sudden weaning, separation from mommy, introduction to solid food, interstate travel!) that are beginning to resolve after almost two weeks and we are well bonded with each other. They depend on being able to come to me for anything. Yes, I am a mom again and loving it!

many times they can suggest a low cost vet, some even do the vaccines themselves

19. The last time we adopted

we went through another rescue, visited their facility and came home with two grown cats (one senior). I've written things for her for their fundraisers. I'm going to ask her for a recommendation. She could probably even give them their vaccinations and I would only take them to the vet when it's time for the rabies shot. I am through with the old vet.
