One nice recent day KC decided he'd go for a walk.

He made his way along the front porch.

KC prefers at least 50° and sunny days to venture outside.

At the end of the porch.

It was a nice day. He went for it.

He likes this garden better when flowers are in bloom, but it's a good landing zone.

Made it out undaunted.

Stepped up on the paving stones. (Thinking, maybe, someone needs to do
some spring cleaning.)

Along by Mommy's new hatchway doors,

and onto the patio. In one end,

out the other.

KC emerged under the back porch,

then walked to the end.

He turned the corner, went uphill by the gas meter and trash can,

Took a look around. Nothing exciting. Time to head back.

KC walked back below the porch. Met the dog at the other end. She asked
where he'd been. He said "around", but was tired and ready to go back in.

And he awaited his personal photographer to let him through the door.

One day daddy asked Shadow if she wanted to check the mail. It's one of
her favorite things to do.

Down and back is about a half mile. She's always up for a walk.

We take plenty of short detours to sniff and smell.

We stepped into the woods for this shot. We live on a gravel road called
Antler Road. From which graveled Cleveland Road branches off.

Back on the road, looking at the not-so-major intersection. Shadow's
standing on Antler.

Beyond the mail boxes, the road comes to a two-way stop at major Highway 395.
Once we get across the roadway we're in town. From home around 3-5 minutes.

Shadow kindly posed while I shot the mail box stop. Back at the old farm
we had our own mailbox, on a post by itself. Kinda miss that.

Starting back home. If you look beyond the yellow Dead End sign, we are headed
for that little patch of sky at the top of the hill.

But, of course, not directly.

We walk past this tree which has grown in place.

Have I mentioned that Shadow loves the woods.

At the top of the hill our property starts on the other side of this fence line.
We live on nine acres.

We've reached the driveway. We are "a gated community" of one family.

Walks wear out a puppydog. Me too.

Thanks for stopping by. See ya next week.

(6,085 posts)Your photography and your talent in creating stories from them are distinct skills and so complementary. Very impressive. You make a lovely positive peaceful space here. Fun, too. In this violent and chaotic time, that space is especially welcome.
Thanks again!
(I dont mean ever to suggest I have any kind of expert opinion, just lots of simple admiration.)

For the McGovern gang: porch patrol and mailbox 📪 runs are healthy, happy time.

(2,570 posts)Such a wonderful step-by-step saga of KC and Shadow! It almost feels like I'm right there with them. It's so clear that they are living their best lives with you and your wife on your farm.
Thank you once again, George McGovern, for taking us along on their journeys! Did they always get along so well? Who was there first? I dont remember if you've mentioned that before.

(11,628 posts)Laurie responded to a local online advertisement, asking for someone to
adopt a newly rescued ten-month-old cat. He'd been found wandering the streets of a small town in mid-winter, evidently abandoned. Laurie fell in love with him right away. We could not think of a name, so he ended up "KittyCat".
Shadow was skeptical at first, KC was unsure about everything in his new
home; but they grew on each other.
Thanks for your kind comments and for asking!
