Related: About this forumWe Lost A Foster Yesterday
On Sunday, we took in a new foster cat. He was a huge, fluffy yellow tomcat who was super friendly. They called him "Tanner" because he was tan. Well, because I like 'em big and fluffy, I got attached to him. It didn't help that he was sleeping on my desk and getting in my way when working on my computer. His owner came forward on Monday. It was a Hispanic family who had noticed him missing on Saturday, and his real name was Moca. We were trapping in the area, and Moca likely stumbled into one of our traps to eat the food. Moca was seriously matted, intact, and had some cuts on his nose and head. Apparently he was fighting with some of the local outdoor cats. Anyway, the family gave us permission to hold the cat until the spay/neuter clinic on Wednesday.
I became fond of him pretty quickly, and he let me comb him and even trim his claws. I tried to do his mats, but I was hesitant. We took him into the clinic yesterday morning for neutering and probably a lion cut. They put him under anesthesia and his heart stopped. They gave him CPR for 25 minutes before they got permission from the owner to let him go. I'm just devastated. Even though he wasn't my cat, he was in our care. Everyone at the clinic, and our cat rescue, were upset about it. Fortunately, the family was okay, and they took him home for burial.
Luckily, our bottle baby expert was at the clinic when we went back to pick up the other cats that we were delivering to fosters. She had a litter of six that she wanted the vet to check out. So I got some kitten therapy in.
Life goes on, and there's always more cats to rescue.

(2,588 posts)I know it hurts. You did what you could for Moca. You have my condolences. He left paw prints on your heart in your short time together.
And what a big heart it is. Thank you for the wonderful work you do.

(1,640 posts)I want to thank you for what you do to help cats. Most of our cats were rescues. It takes a very special heart
to take in animals, heal them, and then let them go to other families. I will be thinking of you and Moca.
