(1,040 posts)She wasn't a kitten when she showed up to join the 10 or so other ferals we were feeding. The others have long passed by either leaving or passing but she is still here. She is however nearing her end. She still eats but she has lost a lot of weight. Still cries to be pet whenever we are outside but we know it won't be long before she is gone. She is a Tuxedo and her once black face is now covered with white hairs. She has never been to the vet so we are surprised she has lasted this long. She is a fighter but we know and expect it to be soon for her time to end. She is such an everyday sight to see, it will be sad when we no longer hear her loud cries to be fed.

(46,100 posts)Tiger was one of 10 kittens that were trapped neutered and released in 2010. The others left long ago and he stayed with me. I sympathize with yours getting old

(9,413 posts)It's always hard when one of them passes on. I've often said that pets are like children that never grow up. They're a part of the family, and we love each and every one of them.
The sadness will pass, but your memories will live on. Hold onto the memories. They'll become a source of happiness and joy over the years.

She pulled through ok, only 4 years old.
It was touch and go for a while.
No matter how I tried, I couldn't reconcile with the prospect of life without her.
I feel every bit of what you are feeling.
So very sorry, my friend.

(7,188 posts)How he always chose you.
That alone makes me cry again because there's no greater way for him to tell you again and again how special you were to him.
I think back to Forrest Gump, as he described Jenny.
I hear Tiger saying it again and again,
Walleye, he was my friend, he was my only friend.
And you were, WOW!
"He chose me again and again."
Can't think of a greater epithet than that.
He loved you so much, just how much will become clearer in the coming days.
You will find that memories will come from nowhere, memories that seemed one offs at the time, and now the puzzle fills itself to completion.
You were a great Papa Walleye.

(7,188 posts)I had Freddy visiting for about three months right after Snuggles died.
I think he was my comfort cat. He disappeared and I never saw him again, and yes, there's still the part of me that holes I see him again.
There was a Sunday in August back then when I surely felt his soul leave. I can't explain it except to say I was walking in my yard and all of a sudden, I felt him, by name, will the bonds of this life.
I said good bye to him then and he's part of my morning and daily roll call of greetings to my passed friends.
Cuddles, Snuggles, Papa Bear, Freduardo (Freddy and don't forget to roll the r's lol.) and Papa Bears little munchkin dwarf daughter Little Girl, who to this day is the cutest cat I ever laid eyes on.
I'm so glad I got a chance to say good bye to the others.
