Another Pet Food Recall!

Natura Pet Products today recalled six different brands of dog and cat food over potential Salmonella contamination.

The recall was made after a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) test returned positive for Salmonella on a single sample. The products being were all packaged in the same production facility as the positive sample.

Natura Pet Products manufactures pet food and treats markeded as “natural” and “holistic.” The recall includes dry dog food, dry cat food, and pet biscuits/bars/treats branded Innova, EVO, California Natural, Healthwise, Karma, and Mother Nature with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.

You beat me to the punch by three minutes.

There was another DUer that was using Innova products so we can pat ourselves on the back.

I don't know why but I never think to do that.

Geez, these days there's precious few companies that can be trusted anymore!

Salmonella contamination can occur quite easily and they are doing a total recall of their products so they appear to be willing to pass up a significant amount of profit to prevent an epidemic among pets. They are also providing for reimbursement to their customers. I think that is an exemplary reaction to the situation. Hopefully, nobody will have a pet that suffers because as isolated as I am and with all the bickering that I deal with in relation to my human family, my kitteh is my best friend and I feel like I communicate with her better than with nearly everyone else.

I must admit that it's about time to give her a flea shampoo again so she'll smell good. After the initial shock wears off, she climbs into my lap and becomes a purrmeister. She has put a significant amount of time into training me!

I don't use any of those products, but I want to know about any recalls, just in case.

I get so sick of these recalls!

What the hell can we feed our pets? This is just insane!

Thank you TTW! Thank you so much for the heads up!

This crap never used to happen before. Never in all the time that we had our family pets can I remember a single pet food recall of anything. Nor can I remember a single human food recall of anything. But then in those days pet food companies weren't owned by a handful of huge companies that make all the foods in a giant plant where it's not nearly so well kept clean and where these days it's nearly impossible for a salmonella breakout to not occur. Very very few pet food companies are small or family owned and still make the foods in their own far smaller and far easier to keep sanitary facilities. Even Blue Buffalo has sold out and has their foods made in these giant plants, and some of these places use the same vats for different foods so you can't be sure if you're getting some remnants of regular foods mixed with specialties ones or not. They can still boast of being family owned, but they've gone to having their foods manufactured in the same huge plants and the same vats as the worst of the worst cheap foods on the market.

Just with my current dog alone I had to switch his food FOUR times before I found something that was what I wanted for him and that was still made in that company's own far smaller facilities where different foods aren't made in the same vats without cleaning in between and where it's FAR easier to keep the place sanitary so that these contaminations don't occur.

I've been feeding Yoshi Merrick for most of his life now and no problems so far. You better believe I'll be keeping an eye on them and see if they ever sell out their making of their foods to any of these giant unsanitary plants.

The FDA is totally useless anymore and not just with pet food. Just in the past few years I had to get rid of peanut butter, spinach and lately several cans of tuna because of recalls. People can't even trust foods for PEOPLE anymore.
