Officer Dan Waskeiwicz of the Baltimore City Police received a call one day when he was on duty stating that there was a vicious dog terrorizing a neighborhood and he needed to help. When he got to the scene, people were yelling at the pit bull as it ran around in a frenzy.
Officer Waskeiwicz writes in his letter to Modified K9:
I followed the dog into an ally to see how it was acting. Going on my own approach, being a dog lover, I got out of my car and called the vicious dog over to me. The dog came over with its tail between its legs and panting. I grabbed my water bottle and the dog sat down next to me and began licking my pants. I started giving the dog water. I brought the dog over and waited for the pound to show up.
It was then that he decided that he couldnt bear to see the dog go, knowing it would likely be euthanized. Dan decided instead to take the dog home himself. He jumped in the back seat of the cruiser with the vicious canine, and it was clear that hed made the right decision.
Officer Waskiewicz named the dog Bo and introduced him to his other two dogs. The crew hit it off with no problems. Bo had shown signs of neglect from his previous home, but he made a speedy recovery.

(19,089 posts)But, I wonder if you would post a thread about a 'vicious' dog, where the dog was actually 'vicious' and devastated a family or two by mauling and killing a child ....
Yeah ... I know ... It's all a big lie ... except for the many instances where this has happened; It's all a big lie by dog hating liars ...
Yeah ... not vicious .... Going to work now ...

(39,191 posts)Those of us involved in rescue know the horror stories caused by man and the animals THEY keep.
there are plenty of other forums on DU you can spew your unhappiness and find lots and lots of people to nod in agreement with you.
here, we don't give a shit about the hate, we just ignore it.
I HOPE YOU HAD A "PITTIE" DAY AT WORK.

(19,089 posts)It seemed so one sided ...
And so nonchalant about the little boys and girls who have gotten chewed up .... I was thinking someone should speak on their behalf ...
I am an imperfect representative ...

(14,554 posts)However, the point is that you have to look at the statistics and decide if it's really warranted to then immediately assume every dog is viscous. That's just not true. Not even with pit pulls. In my post below, I suggest that if people would actually learn a tiny bit about dog behavior, they would be able to spot the dogs that are showing signs of aggression instead of just assuming every dog is viscous.
Have a good day.

Your post kind of misses the mark for what's appreciated in here.
There are two sides to most every issue. I dare say you're on a different side of the pit bull issue than all who post here.
Not saying you're wrong to hold the views you do. Just that this isn't the place to debate them.
Thanks for understanding.

(3,702 posts)I am so tired of hearing about how dangerous pit bulls are. 99% of the time it is the owner (I will acknowledge that 1% of any breed may have issues no matter who the owner is) who has created the problem.
I say this as someone who has had 4 rescued dogs and made a lot of mistakes in training along the way.
Thank you for sharing this story - I love to hear happy endings!

Too many people just freak out over dogs that even look like a pit bull.

(14,554 posts)That's the problem, though. People judge dogs (AND OTHER PEOPLE) by the way they look, without actually noticing the actual behavior of the animal (or person). You can learn to spot a dog that is acting in a truly aggressive way (which is USUALLY just because they are being defensive because they feel threatened). If more people would take the time to think instead of making snap judgements, the world would be a better place.
