The vet saw BG today.

She thinks our Big Guy has asthma. Or an allergy.

Either way she gave us some steroids and amoxicillin.

His lungs only have a very little raspy sound. Nothing remarkable. That's what we heard when we listened, so we will listen to him a couple of times a day for a while.

He wasn't dehydrated, his skin snaps right back, and did use the litter box, 1&2, last night. There wasn't much 2 but at least there was something. The little shit(7.6lbs. little???) must be eating and drinking when we are asleep because I've only slept 3 hrs. or less for the last two nights and he slept on a sewing box the whole time I was awake and he didn't leave. My wife says she didn't notice him at the food or water bowl during the day but she has been working in the garden some lately.

He's more been a little more alert today and even licked at some canned food. We have an 18yr. old cat that gets canned food and he gets leftovers but he hasn't even wanted those.

After all the imaginings this weekend of what it could be. Damned intertubes!

And a suggestion from a DU member, Thank You Freddie . Because of you we watched for him to pee. No blood or straining. A big relief!

The doctors report was a big relief.

Thanks for the concern.

Now it's time for supper. Maybe we'll see if he wants some meat loaf.

Sick cats are the worst because of their instinct to not appear vulnerable, they don't "appear" sick until they are quite ill.
And greetings from the "real" Freddie, an oversized orange tabby. 18 lbs of purr.

So true about sick cats. We had one, Red, that acted fine until he collapsed. His kidneys were failing. He was so bad that he screamed in pain when we tried to hydrate, medicate, feed him, anything...he hurt so bad that we couldn't let him suffer like that. It was the hardest decision that we've ever had to make.

It was the only time we've had to do that in 30 years of having, and finding homes for, unwanted, sick, and abused cats. But we couldn't let him live in the kind of pain that he was in. Nothing helped. It was three years ago and I still see his face as my wife took him away...he looked at me and the bed and I know that all he wanted to do was lay down and try to sleep. He couldn't even really do that because he hurt so bad.

He was the coolest cat.

He bossed us around for 15 years. He was about 1 when he showed up at our front door one very cold winter day, looking pretty rough.

Our other orange cat is Punkin'. She's about 15 lbs. of purr wrapped in what sometimes looks like 20 lbs of fur.

Say hi to Freddie.

that can be treated easily. I know how it feels to have a sick cat and wait for the vet's office to open. Good that the vet was able to see him so quickly too.

Hope the allergies or asthma are not too bad.

He's acting better after one dose of steroids.

The vet said he's so young that if it's an allergy that he could grow out of it.

Here's hoping.

Maybe the steroids will perk up his appetite? You're right, though, he must be sneaking food and water when no one's looking. Gad he's going to be ok.
