Doggie adoption in the works.

Last edited Wed Oct 9, 2013, 03:53 PM - Edit history (1)

Would appreciate good thoughts for us. Has only been 2 months since we lost our Sam. But this little girl, a 2 year old cavalier King Charles, needs a home now. Have done some reading, have had a long chat with our vet nurse. We need to rule out heart murmur because this breed is very prone to mitral valve prolapse. Going to meet her at 4pm today. If health records check out will probably bring her to her new forever home Sunday.
Anybody have experience with this breed? From what I've read and heard they are very affectionate.

UPDATE: There's no heart murmur, and she's got a clean bill of health and up to date vaccinations, etc. We met her and just fell in love. Just brought her home tonight - why wait until Sunday? She's busy sniffing around getting used to things. Cute and sweet. Will post pics soon. Thanks for the good thoughts.

P.S. The name she came with is Molly. My 3 year old grandson thought Bugsy was the better name (gotta admit, with those eyes of hers it's spot on). We'll see.

I have a friend and that's all she's ever had. All I know is they are expensive to buy! They seem very sweet.

Keep us posted!

I will tell you that they are the most wonderful breed. Honestly, though, they will all develop a heart murmur. Some later, some earlier. In addition, please look up syringomyelia and be on the look out for signs and symptoms because it is more and more prevalent in this breed.

Enjoy your new dog!

Things happen at a different time than we think we are ready for, and two months does seem like it isn't enough time....but I have done worse (within one month I fell in love with my current cat). It doesn't mean that we are not still grieving the loss of one pet, but an animal in need doesn't know the "right" time.

May you have a beautiful relationship with Molly/Bugsy!

Actually, I rather like the name Molly. Bugsy seems more like a good name for boy dog, too.

My old neighbors that lived in the basement apartment where I used to live years ago had two King Charles Spaniels. Is that the same breed? They were sooooooo affectionate to everyone. They both had this silly thing they did where they turned around and sat on your feet and then would look back at you by tilting their heads back like a seal.

They are different. Apparently the King Charles has a slightly more domed head and smaller feet, and is smaller in size. Must be really tiny, because Molly is pretty petite.

And we all agree that Bugsy would be more appropriate for a male. We'll stick with Molly, I believe.

That's just what their dogs looked like in looking at the photo that wikipedia uses for the cavaliers. They also didn't look at all like the photo they used to describe the slightly smaller regular King Charles spaniels since that one has a smooshed snout. They were really funny doggies and REALLY affectionate. I don't think their tails ever stopped wagging furiously. They looked almost exactly alike except the male had more white over all where their female was pretty much 50/50 white and tan. The male was also slightly bigger, but it was so hard to tell with them constantly in motion.

I think maybe I like the name Molly because my old neighbors named their female Mandy. I can't remember for the life of me what they had named the male. I keep thinking it was Charlie, but that can't be right because that's what the husband's name was. It's driving me nuts trying to remember what his name was. It's hovering on the tip of my brain yet I'm drawing a blank.

along with her environment and owners. Molly is such a nice name! My Granddaughter's name is Molly so I'm a bit predigest.

I knew 2 King Charles and they are soooo friendly and affectionate. One just died at a pretty old age and neither have/had a heart murmur. I actually considered buying/adopting one but ended up adopting my beloved Jack Russell Terrier...my protector. lol

Good luck with your new baby and enjoy her for many years to come.

That is a seriously cute dog breed. My Allergist has two. We talk dogs when I go for check-ups, it's amazing we get around to discussing my allergy problems at all!

Enjoy!

Adorable, sweet and funny 3 year old. It's going to be hard to let her go on to a forever home without me.
