Fung paws.

Quincy has been eating and licking his paws to a bloody pulp the last few days!

Took him to the vet, because of the rain and wet issues we've had here recently he has PAW FUNGUS!!! YUCK!!

They gave him some meds, but I was told to dust his paws with cornstarch at night! Crazy huh?

We are in a drought too... It's nuts. Has anyone used cornstarch before? He seems to be okay with it so far.

I guess the cornstarch isn't upsetting him much.

I've been giving him benadryl as well. Crazy dogs! I love 'em!

I was concerned that he would lick the cornstarch and be ill. So far he is still licking but not as bad.

when I have a heat rash. It keeps the area dry to help get rid of the rash. It works fine and it not harmful, so go for it.

I just sprinkle some in a bowl and press his paws into it. So far he seems better, his paws don't stink like fritos anymore! LOL!

Your rugs/floors will look better. If you use booties...you could put a little olive oil on this foot first and the corn starch will stick better.

on his paws, he has licked it off but I keep re-applying. Maybe tonight after his benadryl he'll feel tired enough to not lick it all off!

then I would think he will stop the licking. But it may take time for the itch of healing to go away. I hope you don't have to go to the cone of shame to get the paws healed.

I've been saying to my dog, You smell like Fritos! So is that a good indicator? He licks his paws so much! I've never seen him do this before, or at least not as much. Paws and his tail!

The fungus isn't just on his feet. It's usually all over but it affects the paws first and most. Rinse him all over with one part cider vinegar and 3 parts warm water. Put a little more vinegar on his feet. Leave it on for about 10 minutes or more and then rinse again with warm water.
The best vinegar to use is the natural one you find at the health food store or Trader Joes but any vinegar will help. It is a fantastic anti-fungal and and will help along with the meds.

Once your dog has fungus it is likely to come back. A monthly rinse with vinegar and water (and more often in the summer) will keep the fungus at bay and you won't have to give nasty meds.

After the rinse dry his tootsies well.

I always add some natural vinegar to their bath rinse and I add a spoonful to their dog food as well.
