I never used baby talk when I talked to my kids. It just didn't come naturally to me.
Dogs, however, were another story. The occasional baby talk would slip out. From nowhere. And it drove me a little bit crazy. WHY did I just say it like that to the dog?
Now I am dogless and I have really been missing my pups. Of course I have been looking at rescue sites but I have made a plan to wait until May or June when my kids will be home from college. Then we can all be involved in picking out some new pups. But I have really been pining lately.
And now...I just baby talked a woodpecker from my kitchen window. He was on a railing of the deck and I knew he was heading for the feeder. And it just slipped out.
Damn, I need a dog!
I had surgery on my throat a couple of months ago and lost the higher range of my voice for several weeks. It was ridiculous how hard it was to talk to the dogs without it.

(16,334 posts)Sometimes it feels like we are planets apart. You have big spider thingies, and large snakes, and then whatever that thing was the other day.
I see chipmunks, squirrels and birds. And then cats and dogs here and there.
