Coconut oil applied directly to the skin/coat?

Has anyone tried this? I know you can give coconut oil to your dogs by mixing in a little bit with their food, but I have seen some sites mentioning the application of the oil directly to the skin (not sure how you bypass the 10 layers of fur my dog has).

My dog's winter undercoat is really shedding off now and her fur looks a little dry and dull. She could use a little pampering home spa treatment.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it or have any other tips?

It should act as a moisturizer for the skin. Don't think it will penetrate hair, but jtuck004 Jul 2016 #1

it should keep them from drying out a little.

They will probably want to lick it off.
