(115,677 posts)on like that. The dog's owners said they could tell she'd been around cats because she cllmbed onto the picnic table really fast. We went to the other park and found a couple smaller dogs that sniffed then ignored her so it went better. Except the male yr old corgi peed on the back of several of our legs before we noticed.
Ah well, it will take a bit to get her used to other dogs, but she sure was interested and watching hard. Then home to crash for a good nap.
Next time I'll check and see how big the dogs are before getting her from the car. It was a learning day.

(17,045 posts)I don't do dog parks anymore. My baby Suzy-Q was constantly harrassed by larger dogs at the park. That's why we got her Quincy, ofcourse she has passed on now and we have a new baby for Quincy!
GAHHH! It's dog cycle!!! LOL!
Glad your day was good! Post up some pics!

(11,916 posts)The dog park is a fun place, but if they have segregated areas (small vs. large) you may want to stay in the small one while she's a pup. We just got our dog a squeaky hollow stick (by Kong). I guess this is just me being a Mom, but I didn't want her running with a stick in her mouth
My girl (black/tan german shepherd) is a rescue. We take her to doggy daycare a day a week to get (and keep) her socialized. She's actually been to obedience class (which I thought she would flunk) and she passed with flying colors. She seems fine with other dogs when she's off leash, but when we put her on leash, she acts like a nut. When she barks, she sounds like she's going to eat anything in her path.

(3,344 posts)We act like moms and dads with toddlers. Every one is so cute. When a dog they know comes they come up to the fence to greet him/her. My GSD loves playing with the Great Danes. My other is great friends with a French Bulldog. I have never seen a fight there. We sit and giggle at how well the "kids" play together.

(67,807 posts)Was your puppy okay with all the stimulation? If so, I'd give it another go with the big dogs, too. Watch her close, though! The socialization is good for her.

(115,677 posts)so it went much better. She came out from behind me, did a "let's play" pounce a couple times before retreating and even walked around sniffing for a while. She was very interested in watching the ball play, and the Big Person did a couple gentle tosses towards her.
We'll keep going and I'll keep an eye out, make sure the dogs there are appropriate. Rather like a little kid at school. You want it to be a positive experience and eventually she'll come out and play. She really likes to watch and is/will learn how to be a dog rather than a person or a cat with the appropriate behavior.
The other fun thing is she's found her arpy voice and arp arp arp arp arp arp arp arp arp arp arp arp arp arps a lot. So we borrowed a citronella spraying bark collar for a few days. She's set it off a couple times and quickly learned. Our house smells good too.

(11,065 posts)Oh my goodness, that is just the cutest thing!
You know, at first I couldn't even tell where in the picture he was! Good thing I had my feet on the desk because when I found him in the photo I just laughed so hard I could have fallen right out of the chair without the desk/feet anchor.
This photo is a GEM!

(3,344 posts)I am a big fan of dog parks. There are three close to me and I like all of them. I have become a bigger believer that we should learn from dogs how to get along. I hope you keep going.

(13,466 posts)What kind of dog is she? Her little face reminds me of my dog.

(115,677 posts)top dog in the house. It wasn't pleasant but I won. It's been quite interesting, having a baby, us learning as well as she.
Off to the dog park again today, will see if she stays on the ground again or up on the table. She's getting better.

(13,466 posts)The Golden Retriever's in my dog's agility class are so obedient. The Aussies and Layla (probably Aussie Mix, maybe with some BC) have to run around and do something THEY want to do before settling down and doing what they're asked.
Have fun at the park. Layla used to chase bigger dogs around then run under a bench where they didn't fit when she was a pup.
