Related: About this forumMy beloved baby dog is gone.
I was hoping and praying that she'd still be here at Christmas but she couldn't hold on - she really really tried, I just know it. She was very old and very sick, and when her life became too painful I had to let her go. I am just broken. I can still smell her in the house her fur is everywhere and I keep thinking I hear her in the next room. There is no solace at home, she was my home.

(40,212 posts)I know how it feels. It is hard to lose them.
My beloved dog died this past October 22. He was a few days shy of his 14th birthday. He was my little buddy and I miss him so much. My mind still tricks me into thinking he is going to come around a corner.

(7,768 posts)She was 15 and 1/2 years old. She was the love of my life just as your baby is. My user name is a tribute to her (Pearl)
Like you, I kept looking for her, I see the little paths she had worn in the grass to her favorite spots. I would automatically call out her name.
My chest literally HURT. Heartbreak is a real thing. Tears just come out of nowhere when you least expect it.
I'm feeling for you so much and your beloved pup.
I have Pearl's ashes in a little urn here on my desk. I talk to her and I tell her I love her.
I have another Border Collie puppy now (her name is Ryn) I was too damn lonely not to have the company of a dog in my life.
A new puppy and just the passage of time helps ease the pain.
Wishing you the best and feeling your loss and heartache. Good luck to you in your healing.

I had to let my only cat go some years ago, and really missed him but didn't get another one. When I finally did -- and began bonding with my new buddy (differently in some ways) -- it made me feel so much better. He's getting up there, so I'm worried about him now. He really helped me when my wife passed away 8 years ago.
Take care.

(9,833 posts)for your sake. It seems so unfair that they have such short lives as compared to humans. May you find comfort in your sweet memories of her.
ETA: When we had to send our little dog to heaven last January, the thing I missed more than anything was the sound of her little toe nails clicking around the house and her joy over the smallest things. The house seemed so quiet for a long time.

(9,895 posts)Losing our loved ones is never easy whether they are pets or not...but at this time of year the pain is magnified and makes things seem a bit muted and far away. Find your most cherished memories from your time together and hold them close to help. Nothing makes it ever go away, but time makes it hurt a lot less. May your warm memories force away your grief as swiftly as possible and may your departed rest in peace knowing they were loved.

Whether you believe in spirits or energy that remains after death or anything like that, your memories of her and of the relationship you shared are absolutely real and I hope they bring you some comfort.
it's so very hard
Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you -
I loved you so -
'twas Heaven here with you

Do you have a picture or two that you could post here, if you're comfortable sharing? I think many of your fellow DUers would like to get a better sense of this dog that brought you joy for years and years. But only if you are feeling up to posting a photo.
Best wishes to you.

(20,876 posts)She wasn't quite ready to go just yet so she's hanging around for a bit to give you some solace. She misses you and you miss her. She'll eventually cross over when she knows it is the right time to move along to the next dimension/existence. While she may be physically gone, her spirit lives forever is how I believe as the soul never dies.
I am so very sorry for you. I know this pain only too well.
Take good care of yourself and know that your baby is in a better place where there is no pain, only love. She's still around and will be there waiting for you when your time comes. Please do not feel alone as she is with you.
Hang-in there and here is a for you!
