I came home at lunch today

To my 1 and a half year old cat, Ramona, dead. I'm truly heartbroken. Does anyone know why this might have happened? There was no blood or vomit or anything. Sigh. Great cat. Just looking to see if anyone has had this happen before. 😓

I had to go back to work and was like a zombie. My wife is away on a trip for the week for work and is so sad she can't be here with me right now. Just shocking.

3. Possibly a condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which can result in blood clots to the lungs

or heart muscle leading to sudden death. Was the cat pretty hyperactive? Thin? This condition used to be more prevalent than perhaps it is now and may have been genetic and/or inherited nutritional deficiency related.

There is another type of cardiomyopathy (dilated), but it generally shows more symptoms before (tiredness, breathing difficulty).

If this is an inside cat, had been healthy, and no visible signs of trauma or bodily discharge then things like electrocution or toxicity are unlikely.

So very sorry, blur. That is so hard.

One of our former vets taught us, years ago, that cats seldom show that they are not feeling well. This derives from their predator nature - if you show weakness in the wild, you become the prey.
I can tell you loved her very much.

The worst part was that we have her brother as well because we rescued them from the same litter. He keeps sniffing around and meowing. Breaks my heart so much

15. I had a rescue cat that was about 4 years old.

I had him for 2 years. No signs at all except passing a large hard stool the night before he died. Died all of a sudden. I didn’t pay the vet to find out the reason though.

And I can't pay the vet for that. It's too expensive. Instead I will get the other 2 cats checked out just in case.

Our four legged companions are as much a part of our family as the people we love. Losing a beloved family member like your Ramona is incredibly painful.

If you can, show her body to her brother, so that he can know what happened to his sister. Otherwise, he may spend days looking for her.

No sign of anything, but did an autopsy.
She had been poisoned on purpose with a laced hunk of meat.

And very sad. I also had another pup pass suddenly from gastric torsion.
It is hard when they go so suddenly like that.

I don't think it was toxic because there was no evidence of that, but if she got into something super toxic I wouldn't know. We have two other cats and a small dog though and they are all fine. So I don't know. Just sucks all around.

We had a cat go missing back in January. We posted fliers around the neighborhood and got a bunch of calls. One neighbor blocks away had a dead cat in her yard that looked just like ours. It didn't have a mark on it. It was a male though and ours is female. I don't think there's really any way to know what happened without a vet doing a necropsy on your cat. I'm sorry for your loss!
