Leaving hotel heading over terminal to drag a trailer back to Pennsylvania. The lab she was deaf and blind in one eye. But she was doing ok and she is loved. I reached down to pet her and I got love licks. Here is to the boog who is eight and our golden retriever who is ten. And all other Du community pet lovers may our pups have longevity I love dogs.

(13,462 posts)And I totally love dogs, and meeting them, and the beloved old ones make me smile. My BC Mix is 8 and my BC is 2. I worry all the time about my girl, Layla, getting older, she is a huge part of my world.

(4,033 posts)Will be turning 15 on 8/12. This isn't exact since he's a rescue and we had to estimate his age. He's not as spry as he used to be when we got him 11 years ago (of course neither am I) and he's been diabetic for the last 7 years, but he's still going strong.

(9,443 posts)It was last May. It was horrible because we didn't know what it was having never experienced anything like that before. The urgent care vet said it was arthritis! We brought her home and I told my husband no way was her staggering and falling on her side caused by her arthritis, which I know she has. I researched on the internet and came across vestibular syndrome. Sure enough she was doing pretty good about a week later. It took a couple of weeks for her to be back to almost normal. I gave her Cocculus indicus to help with dizziness. After about a week I started giving her CBD oil to get her appetite back.
As for her arthritis I give her several different natural things and I am just starting her on gelatin. One teaspoon twice a day. Some dogs and people have remarkable results with it.
Her cognitive function is good but I want to keep it that way. So I started giving her and our other dog, who is 11, Cholodin.

(51,448 posts)tilt and walks in big loopy circles when in the yard. Hank was in the hospital 5 days and didn't eat for 8 days. He doesn't remember any of his people friends, his toys, nor the layout of the house. He no longer 'smiles', nor barks, and sleeps in a different spot on my bed than he did for 15 years.

I had to use a sling on my girl for a few days until she started getting her balance back. But she is fully recovered from the event.

(26 posts)My 18 yo Westie is hobbled with arthritis, deaf in one ear and sleeps a lot, but he still gives the love and doesn't let me out of his sight.
Must be closing in on 15 now. Adopted from ASPCA when he was one. He's been with me now thru thick and thin, a very healthy and energetic little squirt. He is so loving, and very well loved--including by his 3 big white furry siblings.
A small portion of his toy stash.... "I really hate this thing..."

(51,585 posts)"Oh my gosh, what's wrong?!?". He thought my little girl had died. I told him she was getting a hair cut and he was very relieved. I usually bring her to the doctor's with me. I also informed him that when she dies I will have to walk around with a bucket under my chin to catch all the tears. It has been 15 years since my first girlie died and I am still grieving.
Dogs are better than most people I have known. Pure love!
