Related: About this forumWe lost our sweet Riley today
He had surgery three weeks ago to remove his spleen. Turns out it was cancerous. He started going down hill this morning and we knew there was nothing more we could do.
He was a beautiful, smart, sweet German Shepherd Dog and we loved him immensely. If I knew how to post a photograph of him (neither click-and-drag, nor copy-paste works), I would.
Our fur babies help to make the world a kinder place. If you are fortunate to have one in your life, please give it a hug from me because I can't do that at my house any more.

(11,750 posts)It is incredibly difficult to help our fur babies across the rainbow bridge, but after all their love and devotion, it is the least we can do.
Much love.

(22,279 posts)A few hours. Riley was so lucky to have had such caring parents and I'm sure he knew it. Go through his photos and realize what a good life you all had! Deepest sympathies ❤

(51,432 posts)When I lost my baby it was the worst thing I ever experienced. My baby now is 16 and I dread going through the loss again. Please take care of yourself and don't so too much or be too hard on yourself. Time will eventually help ease the pain but right now you are going through my worst nightmare.

(9,263 posts)who we rescued 12 years ago. We took him for infect paw and the vet notice some weight loss. He was a big cat and we didn't note the 2 lb lost from 14 to 12. She ran some test and he was in kidney failure and less than 2 weeks later we had to say good bye to him in our home as our vet made the house call to make it easier on all of us. Took a very long time for that not to hurt.
Riley name will always be precious to us
Freddie
(9,232 posts)He was a rescue, an orange and white Maine Coon type. Very loving. He and our Freddie were best pals and I have many pics of them curled up together. He was only 5 when our son found him dead. He must have had a congenital heart defect. He and Freddie are both at the Bridge together now.

(4,033 posts)He was one of two of our diabetic dogs. I still get a lump in my throat each time I only get one needle out for insulin instead of two.
The thing I tell my self is that when one of our furkids leave us, they take a piece of our hearts with them. In time, when we've had some time to heal, we realize that although they took that piece of our heart, they also left a piece of theirs in its place.
