German Shepherd rescued after man hospitalized with coronavirus symptoms was forced to leave her on

Florida deputies and animal services officers suited up in protective gear to rescue a German Shepherd from the boat where her owner was forced to leave her as he was hospitalized with possible COVID-19.

The man, who had been living on the boat docked in the Manatee Pocket in Port Salerno, asked law enforcement to save his dog after he developed coronavirus symptoms and had to abandon both his pet and his floating home.

The dog was placed temporarily in a facility where she is being cared for until her owner recovers, the Martin County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

I don't have a "support system", friends and relatives to help me out. I worried so much about leaving my dog (and best friend) in the house while I was hospitalized.

The little guy passed away last summer. I would love to have another, but I don't think I can responsibly care for a dog any longer.

It’s good you’re thinking responsibly, but a dog provides a lot of companionship. Could you adopt an older dog who needs a home for his last years?
