PITTSBURGH (CN) - Del Monte subsidiary Milo's Kitchen sells Chicken Jerky Dog Treats made in China that kill dogs and make them sick, a sad dog-owner claims in a federal class action.
Lead plaintiff Lisa Mazur says her healthy 7-year-old dog, Riley Rae, suffered kidney failure and had to be euthanized after being given the treats from time to time for about one month.
She says the only change in Riley Rae's diet that month was the addition of Milo's treats, which says "were unsafe, defective, dangerous, culpably misrepresented as safe and healthy, and did not conform to applicable implied and express warranties."
Another dog owner suedMilo's in late June in Los Angeles, claiming that her dog came "close to death" from kidney failure because of the bad dog biscuits.
Del Monte is one of the nation's largest producers and distributors of pet products and foods, netting $3.7 billion in fiscal 2012, according to the complaint and to Del Monte's web page.
Mazur says the label of the dog treats at issue states that they are made in China.

(14 posts)China is corrupt to the bone. They have sold us poisonous dogfood before, poisonous drywall, exploding cellphones, you name it. If it's dangerous or fake, it's probably from China.

(9,494 posts)and potentially dangerous. Even popular brands like Dingo and Milo's Kitchen get their jerky from China but look closely at the labels because they are packed and distributed here in the States or Canada. (all Milo's Kitchen treats are made in the US except the chicken jerky isn't that odd? They can't make chicken jerky?)
I recently bought some very expensive duck jerky from a gourmet dog store. When I questioned the owner I found that this jerky was made in Long Island for people. She told me that all of the jerky for sale for dogs came from China and that she and her customers wouldn't buy it.
Dog food products originating in China should be avoided at all costs!

(18,219 posts)the Chinese will do absolutely anything to cut costs, up to and including adding toxins and poisons.
Hell, I won't give my cat a toy made in China.

(14 posts)Even if they were completely safe I would still refuse to buy anything from China because of their horrible human rights record and its brutal occupation of the peaceful nation of Tibet.

No living thing should eat anything made in China. At one time I fed my dog the sweet potato ones, which she likes, thinking "what could they do to poison a dried sweet potato". Well, they add a toxin, that's what. I haven't fed my dog any lately, but from what I've been reading the Canyon Creek sweet potato treats are among the bad ones, and I had bought those from Pet Smart before.

If it's made in China, I'm not feeding it to our dog. I'll just consider it poison and move on.

(1,328 posts)sweet potato sticks simply. Cut into narrow strips, place on cookie sheet, bake in over 250 degrees until they are done. Usually a couple hours, depends on the size of the strips. Cheaper in the long run.
