My border collie pretty much ignores the pair of cats I adopted last year. But one of the cats apparently decided he loves her, and follows the dog around everywhere. Rubs her, sits next to her, watches over her and occasionally hugs her like that.

I was a little apprehensive bringing her into our household because the breed notes mentioned coonhounds may view cats as prey, chasing and even killing them. So those first few moments of leading Josie from the car into the yard, with several lounging cats, were quite tense. To my relief, however, Josie obviously was avoiding eye contact, carefully looking anywhere but at the cats, and treated them like landmines that might go off at any minute. I got the distinct feeling that she had encountered cats in her previous life and been terrorized by them.

It took time, but she's not so skittish around them anymore, and one my cats absolutely adores her. We'll often find them curled up on the bed (ours, not one of the MANY dog beds around the house).

After 4 years together she will let him walk up and smell her, anything more and she runs. Every once in awhile she will sleep on bed he is already sleeping on. Maybe she feels thats safe.

Hubby says if dog tried this picture he would lose his nose.

due to a massive infection in her teeth...we fixed that and took her home. She was very scared and timid at first. I fed her by hand and babied her...my usual tactic with frightened rescues...a few weeks after Lily arrived Felix the Kitten arrived. The girls hid him in their room but had to tell me because he wasn't doing well...brats! Felix was too young to leave his Mom...we were getting ready to bottle feed, and I have to say I wasn't looking forward to night feedings when Lily the Pom took it into her own hands or small paws as the case may be...she nursed Felix until he was a big healthy cat and we had to stop it because he was getting too rough with her. He was bigger than her by then...we put her in a onesie so he could reach anything. They still sleep together every night and he is disciplined by his Pom Mom if he doesn't fly right. Animals are amazing. It really brought Lily out of her shell...I wonder if her last litter was taken from her and Felix help heal her in some way. Today she is a bouncy fluffy fun little dog. She is all white and cute as a button.

Benjy and Felix the cat all grown up! We lost Benjy in February.
