We didn't divorce over feeding the dogs...yet...

I have posted many times about how my husband was over feeding the dogs. Here's the last rant: https://www.democraticunderground.com/116147354

This started when they were puppies and he had excuses all the time. I explained how dieting was going to be so much harder when they were older (not my first rodeo).

Fast forward to a couple of months ago and the vet visit where we were basically told diet or look for trouble. I am not sure how much a rott is supposed to weigh and I know the part about seeing ribs, etc. but the point is my spouse was constantly over feeding. I almost filed for divorce after leaving the vet's office. He's not an idiot so I am not sure why this was a blind spot for him.

Switched dog foods and I portion the meal every day and I have threatened everyone in my household.

They get walked just over 3 miles a day (they had this before too) but when the weather gets better, there will be more fetch in the backyard.

It's working but they have become extremely food aware (accidentally drop a piece of carrot while chopping and there is a stampede).

he will not stop. The cat is a former adult feral who, I suspect, seeks attention from food. He is fed on demand.

When the cat lays on his side, his stomach is a small hill. He is 5 years old. We play with him for exercise, but, as a chunk, he doesn't move as much. I do keep waiting for the vet to tell us, but, due to Covid, we still wait in the parking lot.

He is a large cat.

Our vet really yelled at him and told him how he was shortening the cats lives. We no longer free feed on demand and feed mostly wet food which is better for the kidneys and has fewer calories. It's hard to say no to a treat when they look at you with those sweet stares. Now he plays with them instead of giving them food. Treats are only given if they come when called or as a reward.
Our female is a former feral and also very food insecure, so I understand what you are going through.

another thing the cat gets all day.

The cat used to like Temptations. Now he doesn't and they're all over the kitchen floor.

Now it's some treat that looks like a chocolate bar you break pieces off of. And some other thing you squeeze up and the cat licks that looks like, frankly, diarrhea.

We've discussed the treats' situation
