A female orange polydactyl tabby. We knew right away she was polydactyl, of course. We didn't grok to the "she" until we caught her coming on to my male cocker spaniel (LOL).

Anyway, she had one other very strange habit, besides laying all over my computer (which earned her the name 'Puter); every day when I'd come home from work, I'd have to stop and bend down every few feet from the front door to my bedroom closet and pick up my dirty underwear. She'd pull them all out of my dirty clothes and deposit them throughout the day until I got home. I'm not sure what the attraction of doing this was, but she never missed a day, and she always took the weekends and holidays off! She was a very strange, very special kitty. We lost her about three years ago. We've had a few more who've found refuge in our home with us (we take in strays and ferals and we love them all), but there will never be another cat like 'Puter, of that I'm absolutely certain!

Unusual, with a mind of her own. That's a cute story about the dirty laundry. How'd you ever get any work done with her "laying all over" your computer? Do you happen to have a photo of Puter? Thank you for letting us know about her. It's great that you care for strays and feral cats.

I found this info on Wikipedia: "Normal cats have a total of 18 toes, with five toes on each fore paw, and four toes on each hind paw; polydactyl cats may have as many as nine digits on their front or hind paws. Both Jake, a Canadian polydactyl cat, and Paws, an American polydactyl cat, were recognised by Guinness World Records as having the highest number of toes on a cat, 28. Various combinations of anywhere from four to seven toes per paw are common.[3] Polydactyly is most commonly found on the front paws only; it is rare for a cat to have polydactyl hind paws only, and polydactyly of all four paws is even less common."

could have formed a "thumb"... and she often used it like one. We'd have really been in trouble if it'd been opposable! (LOL) I've got oodles of photos of all my babies. But I have no idea how to post them here. I have to read up on how to do it, and I admit, I've been lazy. I was a registered user back in the early days of Bush, and then went back to reading only until just recently when I re-registered. Even got brave enough to start posting! (gryn)

I work on an iMac and I've written up a set of instructions for posting pictures. (Should be similar on a PC.) Be pleased to send them to you via DU mail if you like.
