A question about feral/abandoned cats. Does anybody here know of any national

or state level organizations that can provide advice in an area that has a huge problem with the cats, but no apparent groups that can help? I have a friend in Mesa County, CO who is trying to help the cats in his neighborhood. Their local humane society does nothing about cats, and there are no rescue operations, just a few people who foster (and are completely overwhelmed).

Any resources, advice, etc., will be most appreciated. Thanks. In advance.

It is called Rescue Me and I found a bobtail through them. I do not know how they work or what they require as I was looking for a bob tail specifically and that was a long while ago.

Also google 'feral cat' and 'community cat' and your location (county or state)

Thank you for caring about them.

We've fixed about 500 cats and have 13 colonies we feed every day.
The work never ends.

That is a wonderful service! I live on my farm and the number of cats around here has really dropped since one of the neighbors decided to use them and keep a colony rather than just letting them breed as she fed them.

I got to know them well as they tried to help me trap a feral that I had been feeding for 4 or 5 years. He was smart and I was never able to trap him, in fact he would come inside and eat twice a day then lay beside me and let me barely scratch his head with the tips of my fingers (after finding out in a rather harsh and bloody way that that was all he would tolerate). Sadly the day I got my trap and before I could set it up he disappeared never to be seen again. Heartbroken over that one.

My point is that they will almost do it for you and are happy to show you how, lend you a trap and voila! If you want to keep the cats around you can once neutered and vaccinated. PERFECT!

Thank you for doing that service. The woman I worked with was the most loving and delightful person I have met in a long time. She loved doing it.
