Related: About this forumMy Dog Dewey is recovering from spinal surgery.
He herniated a disk in his back. He had the same thing happen two years ago, but in his neck. He recovered at least 90%. He's a lot older, now. Though there are positive signs, I wonder if he will walk again or if he is going to need a set of wheels.
I am lucky to have him. We've been through hell and back together.

(205,319 posts)I brought him for acupuncture. I knew that one of the vets at the clinic where I'd brought my cat offered it. And I'd experienced acupuncture myself and it not only helped, but it was noninvasive. I also met another dog there whose owners had brought her in on a stretcher (big dog) since she was paralyzed. Acupuncture was helping her and she wagged her tail at me. So I brought my dog for acupuncture treatments every other week and they helped a lot, he was able to walk normally - go in and out by himself - after treatments. Just sharing my experience. Best to you and Dewey.

(22,063 posts)Back when I still had the Greyhounds, my little girl Grey had a stroke. Paralyzed her hind end. She stayed in the kitchen in a big crate for weeks while I worked on her. She did get to where she could walk again, although she kept a John Wayne swagger.
Our mini-doxie woke up one day, and couldn't walk a few years ago. His hind end just shut down. Disk problems in his back. Vet put him on various meds initially, but the one that has helped him the most is Movoflex. I mean like--seriously helped him. He came back quickly to running around (we had to make him stop), and jumping on and off the couch (still trying to snag him when he's trying that, and lift him). I get it on auto-ship from Chewy. (no--I am not a paid spokesperson!)
Best wishes, Dewy.

(21,130 posts)If it works well, I'll put it on autoship. The Dew-Dog already has prescription food coming from them, so It wonit be much of an addition.
I appreciate the tip!
He and I have been working in the back yard but he should start "official" PT soon.

Older dogs are a lot of but I wouldn't trade my Oscar for anything.
