Related: About this forumI'm a bad pet mother.
Due to Covid, I was reluctant last year to go into a vet's office to get my female shitzu-yorkie, Milan, spayed. After our old man miniature poodle Charlie passed away in June, we got a poodle-shitzu Cujo. The soonest we could get appointments for them to get fixed was in August.
So, we had an oops. Milan and Cujo are now the proud parents of 2 girls and 2 boys. Don't worry though. We're going to keep at least 2 of them and will definitely get them fixed. Milan will get spayed as soon as they are weened and Cujo was able to keep his appointment in August, so he is neutered.
They are shtizu-yorkie-poos.

(5,920 posts)One of them, the black and white runt, was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around its little front paw/wrist area. The mom was trying to get it off, and I had to stop her from chewing on the pup. He has a small wound around the leg, but it is doing good. No infection and healing up.
It's a good thing I was with her because she might have accidentally killed him. I had to use a towel around my hand to push her away so I could remove the cord. She was being very aggressive and chewing at the cord and the pup. He had a hard time suckling at first, but after I helped him a little, he latched on and then mama began to bond.
We're keeping him. His name is C.J. for Cujo Jr.

(5,920 posts)Covid really screwed up my animal plans last year. I was in the middle of TNRing feral cats in 2020, but covid shut that down too.
It's back to business now I'm vaccinated and will definitely get the Moderna booster if it is recommended.

(5,920 posts)Pups are often born with smooth coats. Also, it looks like one of them got the yorkie gene. I'm so happy that they're all healthy and thriving.

(22,418 posts)I have been thinking about what my next dog baby will be and I can't decide. Shitzu something seems to be a winning combination. Congratulations Grandma!

(5,920 posts)He's a cute little stinker. Milan is a wonderfully fierce mama. She is taking such good care of her babies.
I love shitzus, but am allergic to the breed. I had a full blooded one who passed away a few years ago. Baby girl. But I found out after I got her that she made my eyes water and burn. These guys are mixed so I don't have that problem.
Also, shitzus can have a lot of skin problems.
