Taking Waffles to the vet 3rd time for a skin infection... UPDATE in comments

Last edited Fri Oct 15, 2021, 07:09 PM - Edit history (1)

This is like the 3rd time in 6 mos Im taking her in and now it's gets worse every tome. Im gonna ask the Dr if he needs to biopsy something or what.

Seems like she's just got infection running through her body, even her eyes have been getting messed up.

She had a horrible mouth that just got worse over the years and we were just able to fix that last year...then this. I wonder if the bacteria from her teeth could have gone into her bloodstream

IDK... I take her in at 2pm... I'm sick with worry

1. The vet needs to do a biopsy.

I had a husky once that the vet thought had mange. The treatment wasn’t working. A skin biopsy showed it was a staph infection.

3. We had that with our old boy. Our vet wasn't doing much to help.

We finally found a "specialty vet" who specialized in skin problems. It cost a little more but she cured him of what was wrong with the right antibiotic and topical cream. He has not had it since (almost 2 years ago). Sometimes you need a different set of eyes on a problem.

Hugs to you and Waffles!

I haven't been the best mommy and given her enough baths with the special shampoo, I feel like it's MY fault...

6. Noo, not your fault. I loved our vet too, we are still seeing her for everything except the skin

problem. I just mean that sometimes vets won't suggest a specialist afraid that the customer will think they are trying to charge to much. That turned out to be the case with ours.

but/and LOTS can be done; find a specialist, if necessary.

infection on his back toes. The doctor took a scrapping to determine it was bacterial. She recommended we try Douxo Chlorhexidine Mousse. We go for a recheck today. He had been licking his back toes like crazy. It has worked. No more licking. It can be bought from Amazon or Pet stores. My doctor recommended I wear gloves when applying. Guess it has some antibiotic properties. The hard part has been keeping Alex from licking his paws after application while it dries.. Because it is a foamy mousse it dries quickly.

tested for RW, but nothing turned up. I got that Chlorhexidine Mousse from Chewy and applied twice daily. The places on his toes and leg cleared up beautifully in about 3 weeks.

so she got a shot of anti-allergy meds, and back on the antibiotics, with the mousse and bath stuff...

we're going to revisit in a week, and then talk about maybe a special diet

Not sure if you are in States, but there is an American Holistic Vet Assn. They must be licensed vets, then can take extra training courses.
