I just gave Madoc his first taste of cat nip. Remember that blonde guy in 'Reefer Madness'??

That's kind of how Madoc reacts to cat nip. Sophie and Boudicca would just get lolly eyed and roll in it. If I had a piano, Madoc would be pounding the keys.

1. That's funny! I've lived with many cats during my lifetime and all of them loved catnip.

Until Rosie. She has absolutely no reaction to it at all. She looks at Otis and Sammy like they're nuts when they start rolling around after I give them catnip. I've read that it's a genetic thing and that roughly 30% of cats don't react to it, but it's just weird that I've never lived with a cat that didn't react to it until now.

I'm glad that you and Madoc have each other. What an awful, awful week you two have had.

4. I am still pretty much emotionally exhausted, that's for sure, with occasional tear-storms.

Madoc is a great distraction and the other kitten's mom has been sending me pictures videos of Cinder and Smokey. The first time I saw the photo of Smokey, I burst into tears because she looks just like Morgan. My brother gave me a hug and reminded me that a part of Morgan lives on in her siblings. So true.

In due time, and sooner rather than later, I'll bring a companion for Madoc into our family.

6. Some dear friends lost their beloved kitty a couple of months ago.

I don't know if you remember but I wrote to you asking if the kittens you had needed a home. They're like family so I was devastated too when he passed away suddenly. He was 13 and had diabetes and asthma, but seemed to be in good health otherwise. The vet thinks he had a stroke.

My friends couldn't stand living in such an empty house so they began searching for a new companion. There is a cat cafe in East Lansing so they looked there a couple of times but no cats or kittens were available for adoption when they were there. On a whim, I looked on Craigslist and saw an ad for kittens being sold for $1.00 in Holt. I emailed them and they wrote back. I had a good feeling about them from the email so I gave them my friend's phone number (they're not big emailers, lol.)

They arranged to see the kittens and I rode along with them. There were four of them and they were in wonderful condition--clear eyes, ears, and noses and very active. They don't know what had happened to the mother, sadly. There were two boys who seemed joined at the hip and seemed friendlier than the other two. They came right up to us through their enclosure so the gentleman took them out. They're gray tabbies with white paws. I kind of put my friends on the spot when I blurted out, "Why don't you take them both?" The man didn't charge for them, the only requirement is that they have a good home (Craigslist doesn't allow to advertise free pets.)

They did and they've been a load of fun. My friends are so glad I urged them to take them both and I think the kittens are, too. They do everything together--if one gets a snack from the kibble bowl, the other one does too, if one visits the litter box, the other one goes. It's hilarious. Here they are all innocent when they're unconscious:

You'll know when the time is right to open up your heart to another precious little soul.

7. I do remember you mentioning your friend's situation

I kept it as an open option had bothkittens not gone to Chicago. And what a wonderful outcome for your friend! And what beautiful kittens.

Right now I'm working on quelling panic when I can't IMMEDIATELY find Madoc. Of course, all I have to do is either open the refrigerator or shake the dry food container, and he comes running.

I'm giving him one more day of me pretty much concentrating on him, and then tomorrow I'm going to focus on working in the garden, right outside of the front porch. If he's on his perch, he can watch me cut back the Peony bushes and MAYBE riding back and forth on the mower.

I've never had a male cat, or a kitten this young. Sophie was about 6 or 8 months old and Boudicca about a year when I rescued them, and because of their horrible living situation, both had to be in survival mode, almost from day one, and neither were really ever 'kittenish'. It was kind of sad but they both adjusted really well to having someone love and care for them.

But now it's so much fun watching Madoc grow, adapt, and just make my house his home. He's full of snuggles and full of fun.

Now he is really going to "hunt" from his screened in perch - once he stops bouncing off the walls.

This was quite a sight because she was usually very calm and regal. Millie rolls around on the floor. I am convinced she has found Nirvana.
