It's hard to believe that we are almost at the 3 month mark since I brought him and his siblings into the house. There have been some amazing ups and a very tragic down, but I still say gathering them up and bringing them inside is one of the best 'split second' decisions of my lifetime.

(26,268 posts)We are now playing 'fetch' with any number of things - wads of paper, zip ties, milk rings. You name it. If I can toss it, he can retrieve it and drop it into my hand.

(26,268 posts)At last count, 9 relatives and 3 beloved cats. Well, 5 if I count the feral kittens Tuxie and Spooky Jr, that I've been feeding. Madoc is doing a fantastic job of helping me focus on joy, rather than sorrow.

(6,556 posts)Feral cats and kittens are a special blessing that is known only by those who care for them. May you be truly blessed for all you have done for the ferals in your life, Siwsan!

(26,268 posts)His ears were still flat and I thought he had such a sad expression in his eyes. I knew, immediately, that he was going to stay with me. It's been such fun to watch him grow and gain confidence. Now he spends half his time stalking me and the other half cuddling up on my lap.

(113,336 posts)for a very long time indeed. I know that you mourn all your losses, but I hope that you will always find joy.
Have to tell you, I was getting worried, not seeing you and our boy.

(26,268 posts)My car is at the mechanic's and I forgot to pick up candy when my niece took me shopping. And, truth be told, I've had very few trick or treaters stop by, over the past few years so I end up eating what ever I buy. There's a huge 'trunk and treat' event that goes on, not to far from me and I strongly suspect most parents prefer those to having their kids knocking on stranger's doors.
And, I'm still ultra cautious about Covid so I'd rather not have unvaccinated people at the door, anyway.
So this year I baked some corn bread, from scratch, to go with the chili I made and just had for lunch. I also baked brownies that I'm about to top with mint buttercream.
I'll feed the ferals at 4, feed Madoc at 5 and then put together some cheese, crackers and wine to enjoy while Madoc and I sit in the dark and watch scary stuff on TV until after the end of 'official' trick or treating (8 pm). Then I MIGHT turn on some lights.
