Related: About this forumArgh! Now Gryff's appetite is 'off'. He's eating. Just not as much as usual
Maybe a phase he's going through but after my experience with Morgan, I'm on the verge of freaking out. Or, maybe this has something to do with his neutering. I admit I haven't been hovering over them when they eat. When I had the 4 kittens, I always fed them in the den so I having to police the boys so they wouldn't eat all of their sister's food, too. So, I was well aware of how much they were eating. Now the food station is in the kitchen. He might have been nibbling, and Madoc was finishing off what was left. Madoc has a really healthy appetite.
Gryff did tuck into some sardines, tonight. Not a big serving, but at least he ate. And, earlier he ate some wet kitten food mixed with baby food. I can't leave anything out for him to eat at his leisure because Madoc will scarf it down. And both seem to be ignoring the kibble. I think I'll buy another bag of kitten Meow Mix. They seemed to really like that.
Morgan got lethargic when her appetite waned but his activity level seems the same as usual. He's playing and wrestling. But, if this doesn't change, we're going back to the vet.
I think I'm going to need to take an Ativan, tonight.

(4,608 posts)They can lessen appetite, sometimes from mild nausea. Or just inhibit the appetite, in general.
My Leo always acts funny for a week or more after surgeries (hes had extensive dental issues). I think its a way to show his dissatisfaction with me for allowing the indignity of surgery.
I wouldnt worry until he hasnt regained his usual appetite by Monday (Edit: I thought it was Friday today! Good gawd. Id give him 3 days
so by Saturday, not Monday. *Facepalm*), or stops eating altogether.
Sending hugs to all 3 of you.

(3,328 posts)You definitely don't need an ailing kitty baby. Could it be the residual anesthetic from his recent surgery, at the vet's? Hope he gets his appetite real soon. It is a good sign that he's still active and playing. If he's not better by tomorrow, call the vet's office or get him checked, with the weekend coming up. You need some peace of mind.
I'll send some healing vibrations and positive energy, that he starts eating and both kitty boys stay healthy and happy, from now on. Take care.

(26,268 posts)I'd worry more if he was isolating himself. Regardless, if he doesn't start eating more by tomorrow I'm going to call the vet to see if I should bring him in.
We've been playing with a cat teaser and he's been LEAPING really high. At one point he got tangled in the teaser and went racing though the house with Madoc chasing him. I'm going to keep them playing and maybe that will help work up his appetite.
I did buy some Blue Buffalo kitten food, today, and will give that a try in the morning.

(26,268 posts)Judging from his behavior, he seems to be feeling just fine. Hopefully all of this activity will help him work up an appetite.
I just really need an extended break from any more grief.

I had a minor surgery a few yrs ago & dr prescribed something like prilosec. Gave me terrible heartburn & "food emergencies" out of the clear blue.
I've never had food emergencies in my life, although I was familiar with them having a young grandson.
So meds can definitely affect appetite.
Pls let us know how he is tomorrow?
I'm encouraged by his playfulness & high energy! All paws crossed here! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
