Related: About this forumGryff has been fully of snuggles and nuzzles, this morning, but Madoc was MIA.
I figured he was sleeping, somewhere, worn out by pouncing on things seen and unseen. While I was in the kitchen doing post breakfast clean up I heard him meow, which is unusual. But, from where? He was nowhere to be seen for me to hear such a loud meow. Then I remembered that I unlocked the front doors, this morning, so my brother wouldn't have to bother ringing the doorbell, and sure enough, Madoc had slipped out onto the enclosed porch, totally unseen by me, and had been there for probably about 20 minutes. Poor baby!

(57,073 posts)Well, that might help to curb his desire to explore outdoors!

(26,264 posts)I went out to get something from the car and when I came back in he, once again, did a stealth slip just as the inside screen door was closing.
I'm always watching to make sure he isn't behind me when I go out but not so watchful when I come back in. Fortunately, by the time I open the inside screen door, the outside one has already closed.

(57,073 posts)I took my kitty out once on a warmish day & set her down in the snow (harness & leash, of course).
2 things most cats hate: wet & cold, bundled into snow.
Cured her desire to explore the "wild," but she was 7-8 at the time.
Not sure if it would work for Madoc, of course.

(26,264 posts)It wasn't much, though. If we get hammered by this next weather, tomorrow night, I'll fill a cake pan with some and bring it in for them to explore.

(57,073 posts)At the time I'd done that with my sweet kitty, I had the distinct impression she was jealous of my little Weenie/Beagle pupper who went almost everywhere with me.
She could've too, of course, but walking on a leash doesn't work for her.
So Iet her experience a bit of the "wild" in a very safe, controlled way.
Seemed to help her ..
Of course, she continued to attack my sweet pupper, but that's just a given for her.

(698 posts)It snowed overnight, and there was a drift about a foot deep right outside the back door. She was waiting to go out, and since she always changed her mind if it was raining I opened the door to let her see the snow. Instead of giving up, she gave a leap...and disappeared. Nothing left but a cat-shaped hole in the snow. A few seconds later the tip of her tail appeared out of the hole, flicking angrily. I dug her out and took her back in the house to warm up.
This was the same cat who later figured out our word processor -- but that's another story....
Blwyddyn newydd dda, Siwsan!

(26,264 posts)Even a couple of inches can block me from opening the back door so if we get what's forecast (4-8" I'd be making a trek around the house to feed them. I'm going to put out some ice melt, tomorrow, before the snow starts and put a snow shovel outside, by the door. And I might just shift their eating station to the deck because I can shovel that clear of snow to give them a more comfortable dining space.
And, Diolch! Blwyddyn Newydd Dda i chi hefyd.

(26,264 posts)Gryff is just in one of those moods, today. He's following me everywhere I go.
I'm HOPING the neighbors don't set off fireworks, tonight. Madoc arrived after the 4th of July so I'm not sure how he will react, and I KNOW Gryff doesn't like loud noises.

(12,480 posts)When he saw his first snow he woke me up and he did a rawrraoureow
And he was a little poufed up looking out the window.
So.. I reassured him.
Later when he was calm I popped on his leash and harness. Walked to the place that he sees when he looks out my window.
The falling flakes fascinated him. He pressed his paws into the snow than he ran in a circle shuffling in it.
Than he got cold and I knew he wanted back inside.
So when it snows he wants to go out so I take him out.
