Related: About this forumBIG score on canned food for the ferals!
I am down to my last can of pate for the ferals so I checked Walmart, on line, this morning. They got in a shipment of their 'Special Kitty' pate. So I bought 4 22 oz cans and 2 13 oz. I'm going to keep the wet/dry ratio where it is, so this should last a while.
They had Fancy Feast, both kitten and adult, but I've got 3 unopened boxes and 1 that I just opened, for the boys, so I gave it a pass. Now that Gryff has decided he really only likes kibble, that food should last a while. Of course, I bought another bag of kitten kibble, too.
So, WOW. First an audible meow from Mittens the Kitten and then stocking up on feral food makes this a pretty good Valentine Day.

(778 posts)We have also been struggling with finding soft food for our one remaining little girl. We had finally gotten them switched over to crunchy food and then she needed some medicine and of course, it is just so much easier to give it to them when you use soft food and now she doesn't want to go back. Nearly everything we find is shreds or bits and all she does is licks the gravy out. Pate is so hard to find and most of it is poultry, which she won't eat. Strange thing is that not a single one of our cats has ever liked the poultry and some had already passed on before the next ones came. She gets sick when she eats special Kitty brand.
Fancy feast tender beef pate seems to be a big hit and she will eat some roasted turkey in the tiny packs.
In case that sounds confusing, we lost our furry little boy September 2nd.

(26,300 posts)My Sophie Stinky Toes and Morgan both crossed the Rainbow Bridge, last year - just a few hours apart. I'm now super watchful of my two boys. Two of the feral kittens died last year, too, so I'm feeling very protective of the two that survived.
Sophie used to lick the gravy and leave the bits, too. I'm starting to do a mix of kitten/adult wet food for the boys and bought some 'beef slices' cat food. It will be interesting to see how they react. For the most part, though, they are still mostly getting kitten food. They are 7 months old.

(23,166 posts)Our 4 ferals at this one spot are getting more friendly, less scared, and the little momma calico is now coming very close to me and meowing! It's very faint, she's obviously extremely nervous, but she comes up within a foot of me, meows and will let me touch her but extremely briefly and only sometimes. Her kittens are way more skittish and won't get within 2 feet of me, but even that is much closer than before. One of the kittens spoke to me yesterday for the first time, but it was more seen than heard. I'm in it for the long haul, so feel hopeful of eventual success.

(23,166 posts)Speedy runs up to us, meowing loudly, loves pets and loves our dog. He even stands up and will grab our fingers with his paws, wanting more love. We've been feeding him for close to 2 years now. We've transitioned to feeding him wet food, more calories for the winter, and he absolutely adores it! He hangs out in the bushes under one of the neighbors garage overhang so he has a sheltered area he stays in. There were a bunch of kittens, we started out feeding 4 there, but now it's down to just him at that spot. He's happy and in great shape so we're leaving him where he is - for now.
