Related: About this forumMadoc is in a whole lot of trouble, this morning.
This is my very old trinket box. I have had it since before high school. It contains decades worth of treasured memories. And before 5:30, this morning, Madoc knocked it to the floor, TWICE. He is in a WHOLE LOT of trouble, right now, although he doesn't seem very concerned. He is currently on the hunt for other things to knock to the floor. It's starting to feel like a Kahlua in my coffee kind of morning.

(26,298 posts)He actually gave me one of his rare meows, in reply. I'm going to assume it translates to 'I'm SO SORRY', although it's more likely 'You are mistaken. It was Gryff. I was trying to pick things up!!!'

(5,933 posts)Its clearly your fault for putting things on shelves. Hes only testing the law of gravity!

(14,529 posts)Or is Madoc a he..? I forget..
I am actually quite seriously annoyed with my youngest male: Biscuit. I would post a pic if I wasn't feeling too lazy to do the whole imgur thing. He is a quarrelsome little pita and I am feeling too old and creaky to intervene in catfights.
He keeps attacking most of my females and all the older males. I had to smack him today. I have 7 cats..I love them but dear god can they ever be pests.

(26,298 posts)My experience is there's a WORLD of difference from my lovely Sophie Stinky Toes and Boudicca. Fortunately, most of the time they have me laughing.
I have 7 cats and I adopted a lame female a few years ago..not sure what happened to her..But she was the last super quarrelsome cat I had..she seems to have settled down now..And a young male I have is carying on the family tradition of needless fights :-/.
They all settle down eventually though...

(4,552 posts)That is criminal intent.
Madoc should be punished with a bowl of breakfast followed by a stern bowl of dinner. Plus give him the stink eye all day.
If you think critters don't know you would be wrong. It will work even better if you fuss over your other cats.

(14,529 posts)I think you answered to me by mistake. But I endorse your punishments nonetheless..
Oh cats definitely know when they have been bad..they are sensitive/high-strung animals. They are just not as naturally expressive as dogs are. It is hard for them to do the whole puppy eyes thing even when it is entirely their own fault and they feel guilty about making a mess of your things..
Glad Siswan's box is in 1 piece...it is cool looking!

(14,648 posts)It has taken all the fun out of that kind of stuff for my kitties. I discovered it decades ago when my kitty actually watched to see if I was looking before he shoved my favorite Knick-knacks off the dresser. It was pretty funny to watch him try after I got everything stuck down.

(26,298 posts)Madoc has been a trouble maker, from day one. When I rescued the 4 kittens, he was the only one who dashed under a wood pile, so I had to 'dig' him out. He was the first to figure out how to escape the play pen. I had to isolate him when feeding them because he'd race from bowl to bowl, stealing his sibling's food. That's still an issue with Gryff's pate bowl. To use a very old and now seldom used description, Madoc is 'full of beans'.
I'll have to look into that putty.

(86,822 posts)I was going to suggest a sheet of that rubbery, open weave stuff you put on shelves to keep things from sliding around but the putty thing sounds like a good idea too.

(14,648 posts)And you only need one troublemaker to teach all the others.
This is the one I like:

(21,638 posts)the moment when they can toss something go the floor.
Ember is like that. Anything is fair game for her.
But I have been lucky about that in the past. None of my previous cats have been dedicated tossers. There was one who loved to knock over flower vases, but nothing else. With Ember, nothing is safe.

(41 posts)I have two cats who also love testing the theory of gravity. It seems they like to wait until I am looking at them so as to get my reaction. They do the deed then look right at me. HA.
Madoc looks like he is very satisfied, almost smiling

(12,434 posts)Later in the day, do it again.... Hey, look at that, she really likes whipped cream.
Next day, whipped cream can came out, she was at the foot of the table, wanting whipped cream. "Aw, why not?'
After all, it's mostly air, small amount of sugar and fat.
Days on, out comes the paw, with claws out until she gets her whipped cream squirt.... and not just one squirt. She's addicted to the stuff.
Soooooo now, I have to give her one squirt, then lock her in the bathroom while I am drinking my coffee.

(26,298 posts)I haven't started the boys on a taste, yet. It might inspire Madoc to figure out how to open the refrigerator.
cat I ever had loved the whipped cream thats in the bowl. She was older when I discovered she liked it, and just about every night before bed I would get a spoon out and put a little on the spoon and she would lick it clean. The second cat I had never really cared for it and have never given it to another cat since.

(14,529 posts)I have taken videos of him going nuts over the stuff..I mean he likes fish. But he goes crazy for dairy. He is also a late adoptee.
He is the sufferer because of my experimenting with veganism a second time (the first time was in 2003 or 2004) for animals and the planet. I buy fish for the cats but they don't get dairy if I don't buy any for my own consumption...bad kitties . They seem to be getting by fine on fish alone.

(23,160 posts)Our grey barn cat (looks just like the Bidens new cat) rescue just loves knocking things off tables. Every lightweight thing will go flying except magazines and papers. Thankfully he's not into them.

(26,298 posts)I can't even remember if I bought it, or it was a gift. It does look like something my dad would have bought for me.
Fortunately I haven't yet torn the carpet out of the bedroom so it had a semi-soft landing.
