Found dog trying to locate owner

My daughter is keeping this darling little dog safe and trying to locate the owner. My daughter lives out in the country, and the dog was picked up in an empty stretch between houses. The dog isn't spayed. She is clean, healthy, very small, about 8 lbs, probably 1-2 years old. She is housebroken, well-mannered, very sweet. Pretty sure she was someone's lap dog and probably missed very much. We want to do all we can to locate the owner. If we don't, either my daughter or I will keep her. She really is a delightful little girl

I posted pictures and other information on the local H.S. page, and contacted a veterinarian near where the dog was found. The H.S. says the dog warden has access to their lost and found reports. Is there anything else we can do to ensure the owner has plenty of chances to claim their dog? Not everyone is online. It has been many years since we helped a stray back to its family, so I sure appreciate any advice.

Take it to a vet or animal shelter to see if it's microchipped. n/t Mr.Bill Jun 2022 #2

I'd call any place an owner might contact while searching for the dog. Leave a description and a phone number as well as where and when you found the dog.

of the pup and compose a lost and found ad which can be posted at community gathering places like: gas stations/convenience stores, grocery store bulletin board, even at the vet office you went to in the area. You can also post on utility posts or trees close to intersections. here is one: https://www.pawboost.com/

I posted my Borzoi and her photo there once, when someone let her out of the fence. Got multiple calls (reward). The grocery store and local vets are also a good idea.

I'm assuming no tags. I tracked down an owner once for a Great Pyrenees trotting down the middle of the road that I picked up. Her rabies tag came from my own vet. Another mixed breed I picked up, (again--on the road), owner was tracked down by the local rescue group via Facebook (thank gawd--my dogs hated her!)

She sounds like a sweetie!

We think she is a long-haired Chihuahua. I saw on the local H.S. site that 2 short-haired Chihuahuas were found the same day in another part of town, can't help wondering if someone died and no one wanted their little dogs. But how someone could just let them out on their own is dreadful to think about.

We've got her posted on several sites. If no one claims her, I think either my daughter or I will keep her. My granddaughter loves her, but they are a busy family, and the dog might not get the attention she needs. I brought her home with me yesterday and again today. My old cat isn't thrilled, but she wasn't as hissy today as she was yesterday. I guess we'll see. At this point, what is the best for the dog? If we decide we shouldn't keep her, we'll ask the H.S. for help getting her adopted. I know not to just hand her off to one of the many people who would love to have her.
