We said goodbye to the Four Legged Food Critic,

also known as Manny, in May. He no longer was able to take nourishment. He had outlived the predictions of the Veterinarians by a year and a half with much help from us. We miss him badly, especially while preparing food that he had given a four paws up rating.

He was a tiny Pomeranian. At his heaviest he was just six pounds.

Cancer sucks.

I was debating posting this in the cooking group as FLFC was sort of a mascot, but I decided here would be better.

He had a decent quality of life except for his last couple of weeks. He took changes in stride. A very determined critter.

After she suffered a stroke and developed kidney problems - mushing the food up, blending it, trying to put it in her mouth, water in eye-dropper, etc., etc. - until my heart was breaking. Love demands , at times, difficult decisions and lasting regrets.

I adopted a kitten that was born under a bush in the campground on Ocracoke Island. Many years later her kidneys failed. It was tough.

Losing our fur kids can be about as hard as losing human family.

We're losing the battle to keep my favorite little goat boy alive, probably gone by the end of the day.

He was so funny sometimes. His insistence that he wanted to try what I was eating and then he would spit it out.

We really did not expect him to stick around so long. It was a gift.
